Six officers will stand trial for their role in one of the deadliest shipwrecks in recent years.

On the night of February 26, 2023, the boat #SummerLove sank off Steccato di #Cutro, Italy. At least 94 people died. Italian authorities failed to act in time, ignoring distress signals and delaying rescues.

The Louise Michel, along with other NGOs, joined the trial as civil parties which will now go to court after the judge decided yesterday, in the last preliminary hearing, to officially move to trial.

Six officers, four from the Guardia di Finanza and two from the Coast Guard, will stand accused of negligent shipwreck and multiple manslaughter.

It’s a crucial step toward uncovering the truth about one of the worst state sanctioned tragedies in recent Italian history.

Time lost during rescues is never neutral.
