They've had 4 formal meetings, and management hasn't even deigned to outline what its own positions are, or could be, or responded meaningfully to the union's positions. Some of the key managers have gone on leave during these "negotiations" without delegating their responsibilities, a fact that the union was asked not to discuss.

The cynicism, and the transparent sabotage of the process, is breathtaking.

Management, why are you even here? Some of us lowly academics and professional staff are trying to run a university. Not you, apparently.

During today’s test, the whole room was vibrating the whole time because of construction work. I absolutely detest the new computer labs, every single time I go in, there is something annoying. During one of my tests last year there was a loud beeping noise going off constantly. They decided for some reason to make the 5 classrooms all connected which makes for terrible noise isolation and a really distracting learning environment. I imagine they chose to do it to save money on tutors (all rooms connected means less tutors needed per class). Just absolutely annoying.

#Curtin uni is advertising an ongoing lectureship (level B, teaching and research) in Earth and Planetary Sciences. Pretty broad criteria, would suit someone doing #Quaternary sciene as well as more traditional minerals stuff.

Unit outlines and open-day preparation on hold now at #Curtin as part of #NTEU industrial action, in which I'm participating.

The Director, People and Culture (HR) appears to be trying to intimidate staff via a letter (25 Jan) suggesting that participating staff would be subject to legal issues, due to some highly dubious interpretation of the minutiae of the paperwork.

Management needs to get serious about the university's own purported values here, particularly the first one: respect. Maybe we should offer them a course on it.
