@thomasweibel Interessant, dass Du die #Curta erwähnst. Ich besitze derer auch zwei in meinem privaten #Museum. Leider ist bei meiner kleinen vom Typ I der dünne Ring des Löschhebels abgebrochen. Sie ist aber bedienbar. Sonst sind die beiden tiptop in Schuss.

This little mechanical calculator is one of my favorite objects. It came to me with what turned out to be a fouled 10s pin retaining ring; it was a bear to take apart, ‘machine’ a new part, and reassemble. But it works! And I love it!

Un simulateur interactif web entièrement fonctionnel et qui montre les mécanismes internes avec ou sans vue éclatée, c’est un peu la seconde meilleure façon d’apprécier le génie de la machine.

I'm unreasonably proud of bringing this old calculator back to life. It had a fouled-up tens ring retaining pin that I had *sort* of fixed earlier this year. Now I've actually milled a new one and reassembled it. And it works! It is capable of more maths than I can math!

A thing that's new to me, even though it's been around since 1947 is the #Curta.
It's some sort of manual calculator much like a slide rule and was invented in #Liechtenstein.
These can be seen at the enter.ch media and computer museum in #Switzerland.

Not to brag but I’ve successfully taken apart my Curta Model II, hand made a new tens bell retaining ring, reassembled the whole thing. Now one of the most beautiful computers ever made lives again! #curta #RetroComputing

The #Curta is a mechanical calculator designed by the Austrian Curt Herztark. Curtas were regarded as the best portable #calculators before the invention of electronic calculators in the 1970s. Herzstark had finalized the design in 1938 but was unable to build it due to the Nazi invasion of Austria. In 1943, the Nazis arrested him and sent him to #Buchenwald Concentration camp where he was categorized as an “intelligence slave”. He redrew the entire design from memory after the war.
