Thursday was the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union). Happy 60th!🎂

Founded in 1963 by African leaders keen on pushing out European colonial powers and securing independence for African territories, it played a role in ending colonization and apartheid rule in South Africa. It remains headquartered out of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the only African state to militarily fend off European colonizers and preserve its independence.
