  1. Finally re-started reading House Of Leaves.

Still wondering why it's not getting more attention, with all the liminal space trend in recent years
Probably because it's virtually impossible to create an audio book and movie from it?

  3. Just finished reading The Great Nerve: The New Science of the Vagus Nerve and How to Harness Its Healing Reflexes by Kevin J. Tracey. Enlightening and inspiring. Prompted me to get my rheumatologist to send me back to neurology. Insight into my yoga practice and teaching. Learned about the impact of my running. Very cool book.

  5. #Books #CurrentlyReading In the past six weeks or so, I have taken a holiday from nonfiction. I did not do this consciously; rather, the current state of me kind of demanded it. Anyway, I’m currently reading two very excellent #fiction books. One is called #Yesteryear, and I’m sorry but I can’t recall the name of the author off the top of my head. Feel free to remind me. It’s a novel about a very modern tradwife influencer who many of us usually roll our proverbial eyes at. Somehow she is sent back to the year 1855, I’m not deep enough in the book to know how or why this happened, but she’s inhabiting the same physical property, and her family is also the same but not the same, if that makes any sense. I’d recommend it in any event. Another book I’m reading is Whistler by Anne Patchett. It’s about a woman in her mid-fifties who reconnects with the stepfather who was only in her life for a few years when she wasn’t even ten years old. I basically just started this, and it looks interesting. And, finally, I have read The Borrowed Life Of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston. I don’t usually use the word amazing for books, but this one truly was. I’m not going to give away much, except to say the book deals with subjects such as mistaken identity, eldercare, broken and dysfunctional families, and, most importantly, redemption. Happy reading.

Selected from my TBR mountain as an interlude to all the death and disease and such like, that I have been mostly reading of late.

  9. After finishing book number 56 for the year, I have decided, once again, that it is time for a bit of Bond. Almost all of my copies of the continuation novels of the James Bond series are either tatty second hand copies or American editions that spell words like, honour and colour wrong, so I am buying new copies to replace them as I endeavour to reread the whole series.

  10. I decided to treat myself and bought a new Kobo Clara Colour. I’ve had my Kobo Clara HD for over 4 years and it works just fine, but it’s missing a couple of features I wanted so I decided to bite the bullet.

    1) color… duh. I recently discovered that the Marin Public Library lends out magazines through Libby but they’re not much fun to browse in black & white.

    2) Bluetooth! this one is important if you like to use a remote when you read and I do, when I’m reading in bed. the solution I cobbled together in the past few months works, but it’s inconvenient, and I have to resync the page turner often, which often snaps me right out of falling asleep.

    3) battery life and convenient charging: I noticed recently that my battery isn’t lasting as long as it used it and HD isn’t repairable like the Colour is. It also charges on a really old cable that I hate to constantly carry around, and crashes whenever it’s done.

yay I’m so excited for it to arrive!

  12. RE: mograph.social/@dilmandila/116

I am #CurrentlyReading "The Blossoming of the Big Tree" by @dilmandila . Wow! So many amazing (and I think possible) #SolarPunk innovations, but told in a human scale through the eyes of a 70-year-old woman. I'm really digging it! It begs the questions I've had about leadership, and what sorts of leaders we should have, and what true leadership actually means!

  14. I called in sick because I couldn't be fucked going to work. And I'm reading the Horus Heresy. I'm up to Galaxy in flames.

    > Someone underestimated us, they thought this would be a massacre, but we'll go one better. We'll turn Istvaan III into a war.

I've always seen this quote lurking around the internet... But this is the first time seeing it in the page. The epic context just makes it hit so much harder.

  15. After finishing my 52nd book of the year, my next endeavour will be this one, that just took a momentary trip over my shoulder thanks to a motorcyclist speeding from the traffic lights at Devonshire Road at exactly the same time that I switched on the ceiling fan in my bedroom!

  17. I'm #CurrentlyReading "Thirst: Twelve Drinks That Changed My Life" by John Robins. It really is excellent. Recommended if you enjoy musings on the nature of addiction, the hubris of youth, the complexity of mental (ill)health, or just the struggle of being a slightly awkward middle-aged man.

  19. #CurrentlyReading whether I get to the end is a different matter. Prose seems a bit purple for my current mood. Either way it cost me 10 pence from the Chernobyl charity shop.
