  1. I can't believe we never did this before. We've collected roughly 26 kilo of currant (red and black) for an hour or so a day over the past 3 days, selling it online, and netting us around 180€ so far (there is probably another 20kg or more left to pick). that's a much better hourly wage than i make professionally!

mushroom and lingonberry season is just around the corner too. going to give it a shot as well 😁

  2. #Vögel und #Beeren im #Garten:

Die Vögel "helfen" uns mehr oder
    minder bei der Gartenarbeit.

    Letztes Jahr haben besonders die
    Ringeltauben gewissenhaft alle
    #Johannisbeeren abgeerntet.
Dieses Jahr war das nicht so gefragt...

Aber die Vögel nehmen nicht nur,
    sie geben auch:
Wir hatten eigentlich nur rote und
    schwarze Johannisbeeren.

    Neuerdings haben sich aber ganz
    von allein 🐦 auch weiße
    dazugesellt... 😁

  4. Hebben jullie weleens verse krenten gegeten? Niet omdat ik er één ben, maar omdat ze lekker zijn 😊 #eetbaretuin #natuur #krent #eat #nature #currant English: Have you ever eaten fresh currants? Not because I am one, but because they are delicious (krent in Dutch also stands for tightwad 😊)

  7. This is how easy it is to multiply your #Gojiberry and #currant plants. For Goji berry, you just cut a branch from the mother plant, eat the leaves and root the stem in water. In a couple of weeks, it will start to root. Prepare for a one gallon pot of compost. Put the rooted stem into the compost and water it. Then put it in a good shade in the hot dry summer. Currant is the same. Cut some branches and put them into water and repeat the above process. #permaculture #naturalfarming #foodforest

  11. The red currant mead from Schramms's in Michigan is absolutely delicious. Highly drinkable. #mead #drink #currant #kenschramm

  12. While pruning currants, I came across this little bulb. Using a strand of hedge bindweed (Calystegia sepium), I re-hung it. Cute don`t you think!?

  13. Some of the tops of the Clove currant Ribes odoratum cuttings are swelling. Just the bigger ones which didn't have any grown out leaves.

I've never actually done cuttings of these before by not just sticking them in a hole poked in the ground so this observation is new. Hopefully the other end in the soil is doing the same thing.

  14. Happy #EarthDay to those who celebrate.😜 the creeks are slowly filling as the snow disappears. I see emerging buds and leaves on #serviceberry and #currant bushes. We are in our mid #spring beige colorway that will soon be so #green that it raises my cellular vibrations!

  15. Forest encounter with two young white-tailed deer in their shaggy grayish winter fur.

The deer in the first photo is peering through a wild #gooseberry bush (really more a spiny #currant, likely Ribes missouriense).

  16. #January 26, 1893
#OTD Winifred Welles, American #Poet, is born.

    In her dark #Ballad, “Miss Calkins & the #Centaur,” a woman kills a #Beast while blackberry-picking.

"So far from home, so close to harm,
The #Spinster's thoughts, though stiff with fears,
Recalled the basket on her arm
& that it held her #Garden shears."

Miss Calkins keeps the murder a secret & the #Poem ends:

"Where jellies glistened, glassed & clear,
    W/ #Apple-gold & #Currant-flame
No somber #Blackberry gleamed that year."

  17. #blackcurrant #jelly is made for the year. #cider is next on my list and I'll be mixing in #currant squeezings from jelly-making. #FarmLife
