  1. Happy #WeevilWednesday, a new generation of evening primrose weevils have chewed their way out of the flower buds and I can't get enough of them (as you can probably tell)

  2. It's #WeevilWednesday, do you know where your weevils are?

Met this black vine weevil (_Otiorhynchus sulcatus_ on a late-night walk where I didn't have any of my camera stuff, but I just had to get a pic! Very well-behaved and good-natured about briefly being abducted by an alien.

  3. It's #WeevilWednesday, post 'em if you got 'em.

From last night's walk, two common broad-nosed weevils, an _Otiorhynchus_ and a _Polydrusus_.

  4. It's #WeevilWednesday, post 'em if you got 'em.

Currently down by the lake one can find good numbers of beautiful _Polydrusus_ weevils (whether _P. formosus_ or _P. impressifrons_ I'm not sure) in the very freshest willow leaves.

  5. one of my favourite dinosaurs when I was a dinosaur-obsessed kid was Anklyosaurus. Idk exactly why. anyway check out this Cretaceous-ass motherfucker

  6. Today, more than ever, you deserve a weevil. That's right, it's #WeevilWednesday. Post 'em if you got 'em.

Found this striking little metallic blue weevil yesterday in High Park near oak savannah. Likely _Aulacobaris lepidii_ (bugguide.net/node/view/945003), an introduced species from Eurasia.

  7. i don't have any new weevils of my own to show off this #WeevilWednesday, but may I present for your consideration…the milkweed stem weevil, _Rhyssomatus lineaticollis_. Seriously just look at this fucking weevil. Isn't it the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen

  8. You deserve a weevil. Happy #WeevilWednesday.

(_Polydrusus_ sp., one of the most common weevils I find—I'm certainly not complaining!)

  9. #Arachtober 16: since it's #WeevilWednesday, here's an older photo of mine (posted here: flipping.rocks/@nev/1105853169), a little red long-legged velvet mite (family Erythraeidae) that in its frantic scurrying about ended up climbing over this slower-moving weevil a few times. I think the weevil is one of the billbugs, genus _Sphenophorus_ (inaturalist.ca/taxa/211468-Sph).

Mites are well known for phoresy (riding on other animals), but this was clearly an accidental and temporary case.

  10. It's also #WeevilWednesday! I finally have a new pic to share. I encountered this handsome beast just past the Oculus on the Humber trail. Subfamily #Baridinae perhaps?

  11. It's #WeevilWednesday! Post your weevils!

A new-to-me species I've found on separate occasions on lamb's quarters (_Chenopodium album_): _Cosmobaris scolopacea_, the beet petiole borer. To me they look like if a varied carpet beetle (_Anthrenus verbasci_) were a weevil.

Beets (_Beta_) are in the same family, Amaranthaceae, so I guess that makes sense. BugGuide says these weevils also feed on ragweed (_Ambrosia_): bugguide.net/node/view/236113

  12. Last night instead of doing laundry I went for a walk by the lake and found some marvellous creatures.

    1. Grass spider (_Agelenopsis_)
    2. Huge carpenter ant (_Camponotus_) alate
    3. _Porcellio_ isopod, half-molted
    4. Ridiculous weevil (Cryptorhynchinae)?

  13. You know what day it is. That's right. It's #WeevilWednesday. Post 'em if you got 'em.

Asian oak weevils (_Cyrtepistomus castaneus_) are not as showy as the sparkly green _Polydrusus_, but the subtle green-blue iridescence of their scales complements their warm brown shell very attractively. Found recently in High Park's oak savannah.

An _Odontocorynus_(?) weevil on a black-eyed Susan. Spotted during a very weevilicious walk in High Park.

  15. Our article on #weevils in the #Faroes is out!!

The new #Frøði looks good with a #curculionidae frontpage. We have given all 24 species of weevils Faroese names.

  16. #BREAKING: for the first time this season I have my own weevil for #WeevilWednesday. This clumsy guy fell over at Christie Pits but he's fine now. Perhaps one of the _Sitona_ clover weevils?

    Wishing everyone a weevil-worthy Wednesday!

  19. I'm so excited that I have something to share for #WeevilWednesday. This broad-nosed weevil, found in a bunch of snowberries, had a delightfully subtle pink/green iridescence. Upon discovery it tragically died of fright but revived after a few minutes.

  20. #WeevilWednesday: Took a photo of this black vine weevil (_Otiorhynchus sulcatus_) late the other night. The next afternoon, I saw it had fallen prey to the common house spider (_Parasteatoda tepidariorum_) living nearby. Press F to pay respects.

A long-legged velvet mite scrambling around the lakeside boardwalk ended up climbing onto this placid weevil several times.
