  1. I’m not Cambodian, I’m not Thai, I’m not Lao, and I’m not Vietnamese.
I’ve lived in all four, speak bits of each, and have friends across them.
Do you really think I’m going to side with any one country?
    No, never.

I respect culture and perspective. I’m loyal to none.

I don’t feed the war machine.

  6. With Easter approaching I wanted to wish a meaningful and joyful Holiday to all who celebrate it💛

As a Hebrew teacher, I love using language as a bridge. Teaching how to say “Happy Easter Holiday” in Hebrew is not about stepping outside my faith, it’s about honoring others with curiosity, respect, and connection.

This space is, and will always be, a place where people from all backgrounds can come together to learn, share, and feel welcome. That’s the beauty of language.

  7. If you want to truly participate in and understand Central Asian countries, learn the languages. Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are fierce about protecting their local languages.

Kyrgyzstan also carries the feeling that during the Soviet Empire people were treated like slaves and had much of their best land taken. Ha — but that’s not the point.

Give me a chance. I’m learning. Which language do I speak?

  8. I was encouraged to reflect on #ConsciousTravel today. For me, part of slowing my travels down and being conscious in my travels is in taking the time to really learn about the places I visit. As such, I really enjoyed this article by Liz Campbell, as it does that - helps us to learn about the culture, in this case Japan's culture, and teaches us how to demonstrate our respect for that culture.

  9. The most profound moments happened where I was the only tourist.

Families arrived with offering towers. Children ran, elders gossiped. No one performed devotion.

Have you witnessed authentic ceremony that shifted your understanding?

  24. I have even heard in Western-driven communities that they claim Brunei violates human rights, while I want to emphasize this knowledge: that same-sex relationships, sexual activities, and sex outside of marriage violate the Quran. I studied Islam, and I believe that genuine repentance matters; God's mercy is greater than human sins. The Sultan enforces the rules that make their citizens happy, but outsiders will always use the flaws of other countries that they perceive. I think these are not examples of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, or respect for a country's sovereignty. These are acts of public mockery and accusations against other nations, aimed at bringing them down for the sake of drama, which has increased influence.
