In 2015, while serving as Juca Ferreira’s digital culture advisor, I helped launch #Tainacan as an interoperable prototype for publishing digital collections from museums, libraries, and archives. It was meant to support a #NationalPolicy for #CulturalHeritage #DigitalCollections, but the policy was never launched. After the political rupture and the end of the Ministry of Culture, Ibram-Museus helped maintain the Tainacan dev teams at the university.

Ball State University: Ball State IDIA Lab Launches Mesa Verde Virtual Companion App for Apple and Android Devices. “Ball State University’s Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts (IDIA Lab) has launched the Mesa Verde Virtual Companion, a new augmented reality mobile app designed to deepen public engagement with Mesa Verde National Park through immersive, interactive digital experiences.”

Over a year ago, I had the pleasure to participate in a game jam in the Danish city of Aarhus. It was part of the EPIC-WE project, in which young people in Denmark, Portugal and the Netherlands created games inspired by the values of the European Union.

Later, together with Rikke Toft Nørgård, Kim Holflod, Maarten Groen, and Paula Lopes, we wrote a text about these games. It was accepted at the Digital Games Research Association conference, which is starting soon, and now it can also be found online (before its official publication in the DiGRA Digital Library database).

If you remember Slavic beasts and music in “The Witcher 3”, you knows that video games can be important carriers of cultural heritage. The EPIC-WE project (in whose final phase I took part, collaborated informally on a few conference applications) explored how local, national, or regional heritage can be incorporated into games. I hope that publications of this kind will help us understand a little better how games promote or undermine existing cultural content, but also how they create culture itself.
