1.8 million #farmed #birds have been #culled in #UK as part of #birdflu precautions, and restriction zones exist in several areas (there are 20 million farmed birds produced every week, about a third of the human population)
As yet it has not affected the price of #eggs or #poultry or caused major disruption even in rural areas (there are less warning signs and checkpoints around than in the previous outbreaks)

#WhoKnew - not that #dogs, #sledDogs, helped to #explore #Antarctica. That's not really a surprise. But that they were #bred down there for many years - and then #culled #killed, not #retired and #caredFor as they deserved - when their use was deemed over 😡.
Yes, cute profiles. Hope the cards all get digitized if they haven't been yet. These dogs deserve a #searchableDatabase. And were samples taken from any of them for #DNAtesting later when it was available? Would be fun to see where, if anywhere, their #descendants ended up. #dogDNA #dogGenealogy

They at least deserve a feature-length #documentary/ other #movie. The only one I've found so far was a fictionalized one about a group of abandoned #Japanese sled dogs there , #EightBelow
