CW: Death mention
2 good people near my age died in the past 3 days.
1 of them I went rapelling with. Which put me off of rapelling forever. I want to cling to the rockface too much, and that's not how you do it.
1 of them did some of the neatest weird stopmotion pieces. I was so jealous of his Amiga Toaster that he did such neat things with.
I seriously miss these people so much, despite not being that close.
Tell the people you care about you care about them when you can.

My Spouse was very confused about the Flock controversy because she didn't know it was a brand name. She thought people were talking about flocks of birds on trail cameras and didn't see the problem with that.

Did not expect to have Alabama Gulf of Mexico Coast jellyfish* stings PTSD from 8 minutes into a horror movie (The Devil's Mouth. Set in Thailand). Guess that affected me more than I thought. Might explain why I'm not a beach person besides the sand getting everywhere.

Pro tip for yard work:
Don't turn around fully when using a weed eater powered by an extension cord.
The weed eater doesn't like it and the extension cord is dead.
As my niece found out today.

Never forget it's a small world.
Just found out my ex-girlfriend from 30 years and over a thousand miles away now lives 20 miles from where my wife and I now live.
It ended badly, but I weirdly ended up friends with her brother and his friends and friends of those friends and rarely saw her.
And found out her current partner used 2 friends of ours for models for stained glass panels in a church.
I wouldn't believe this in a novel.

The first 4 were all together. I was taken there in college when my friends discovered I'd never been to a rock show.

It was disturbing to find out a "goth" person I knew who was man who often wore a skirt last millenia is now a full blown racist trump cultist with the mental disconnect to blame *the people affected* by the DEI grant destroying bullshit for his losing his grant and job.
More disturbing is that this description fits more people than I thought it would.

I really dislike what my brain still tells me even after years of therapy.
An acquaintance told me the other night "Thank you for existing."
So *of course* I thought it was some kind of weird insult.
Stupid brain.
They were validating me.

I saw Flo & Eddie in my first ever concert in Pensacola, Florida. A reunion show that opened up with Leon Redbone and had Gary and the Playboys and the Grass Roots. All were extremely entertaining, but The Turtles were the funniest. Because of one of their hairstyles, I thought they became the magicians Penn & Teller. Ages didn't match up, but back then, no deep internet to check. Also how my brother falsely convinced me Leon Redbone was Frank Zappa in disguise.

Going through old photos and things came across a program for the musical play "Chicago" which we saw as a family in December 2001.
Nana Visitor played Roxy Hart and she was, as always, fantastic.
George Hamilton was the lawyer and while Richard Gere did far better in the movie than I thought he would be, Hamilton's performance was incredible.

No need to talk about it. What will other people think? (What about what their own kids think? Not worthy of consideration. )
If you've experienced the above or find yourself repeating the same patterns--please get some therapy.

I thought it was just *my* parents and aunts and uncles, but I'm finding out that a particular generation seems to have treated their children the same way.
Aunts and Uncles who treat the cousins marvelously, but are hypercritical with their own children. No matter what bad things happen, it's their child's fault, and when good things happen, their children couldn't have had anything to do with it. And everything is...fine, just fine when other people are around.

CW: Personal biography note
Didn't and don't want children (we are absolutely fine with our taxes going to public education). Didn't really want cats or dogs but they found their way into my life to much grief -- but also lots more joy.
So the past few years as a stable married couple it's been really strange raising a series of adults who've suffered recent past trauma.
You wouldn't think "be on time" and "don't lie without reason" would be hard to teach or learn, but they are.

CW: Personal venting
If I was good at it, I'd turn parts of the last year and into a country song.
Dog died, cat died, elderly parent medical trauma twice, wife's car just died after talking to her brother whose car just died.
And I *still* have it much better than too many people.

Character says something like, "Without any change in myself, I wish I was the dumbest, most evil man on this planet Earth". Satan screamed.

CW: Personal family issue
My mother had a stroke today. And another one at the hospital.
Going to travel tomorrow to be with her.
Probably through December.
No bicycling for a month, probably.
She'll get better and finally go into assisted living like she should have done in October after she got back from that time in the hospital.
Or not.
Too many unknowns right now

1980s New Orleans saw this show "Sugar Babies" Mickey Rooney & Ann Miller. Vaudeville bits. The dancing was amazing, especially Ann Miller*. People of my generation may be familiar with the phrase "Eat your heart out, Ann Miller" that Columbia says in the movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
Didn't get half the jokes but had fun. Candy thrown.

One of the hardest lessons I had to learn as an introvert is that humans are social no matter how much I like reading books alone in my room. Looking back I've come to realize my going to movie theatre matinees and cheap second run theaters by myself at least two times a week was a way to be social -- without having to interact with anyone.
Online Watch Parties are close, but don't fulfill the *physical* social need.
Bicycling on the trail is pretty close.
Eating out, too.

I have a hard time believing I did this.
I was offered to go down into a basement full of books and take whatever I wanted without paying for them.
Told myself I didn't have space & walked away.
Told my wife and she asked what I did with her husband.
For context, in the past, I had a 2 room apartment with a kitchen and bath. When we moved, my books filled up 4 rooms of our new to us rental house.

But it auto corrected it to:
"I got stabbed by the bookstore".
But I wasn't even buying murder mysteries today!

A bunch of college aged people.
One woman said "You know, it's like everyone does when they want to break up but don't want hurt feelings, you set their jacket on fire."
The rest of sat in silence, dumbfounded.
I don't think she understood that "everyone" was just her.
No, she was not joking.

CW: Referring to pet loss.
This website helped more than I thought it would. Losing a dog and a cat in the space of 5 months has been hard. They were old, had a good 15 years dog life and a good 18 years and 7 months cat life, so it wasn't unexpected but it still hurts so much.
And grief pulls in other sadness, like me missing another cat who passed that I never met except online.
