Her book tells us about many of her rough patches: an imprisoned criminal father, bulimia, and sexual abuse where, as a child, she blamed herself. She said: "My daddy was such a good person. And sometimes good people make bad mistakes." It is unusual for a candidate for governor to reveal so many personal problems. #politics

Well, this instance was down for a protracted time, in the space of which I was catching Lamar Alexander promoting his latest book on #CSPAN, and via that a couple of things caught my ear rather sharply:
He was a band leader.
Linked to the U of TN, the band was "Alexander's Washboard Band". He went on to describe the Senate as a band in need of a band leader. I'm wondering who in the Senate is specifically playing the washboards.
He did say that part of his band's repertoire was a tune whose origin was a very early Max Fleischer cartoon "Kids In The Shoe"...and although people don't generally recognize that cartoon as such, some might still recognize "Mama Don't Allow No Music Playin' 'Round Here". Then again, he is one very old dude, who took his own name and then ran with the title of a Bing Crosby song. Yeah--Alexander's Rag Time Band. Fancy that.

Stateside, I catch such things and #PMQ on #CSPAN , typically when Wednesday's session is re-run on Sundays, right about now, and I'm listening to King Charles' speech finding it quite odd in view of an explainer I heard a few days ago about #BlackRod and the bit he plays in the ceremony.I mostly heard the King talk about "my government" and "my ministers" will definitely do this that and the other. All in all I'd say he made a big mockery of Black Rod. In his establishing that his government was to establish better relations with the EU, he made somewhat of a mockery of "Workable Brexit" Kier Starmer in the process. However, I don't think the King made the Tories any more attractive than they have been per their track record.

Was watching the Correspondents Dinner live on CSPAN last night when I noticed people acting weird and the head table get evacuated.
CSPAN was covering the story 30 mins or more earlier than other news outlets.
FWIW I also saw the events of January 6 unfold live on CSPAN as well. So yeah, go CSPAN.

You can watch a lot of live video news streams from national outlets on YT for free, at least for some period of time on some days. I wonder if we couldn't get them to use #owncast. They should all value being able to reach the world while avoiding relying on a US big tech corporation likely willing to censor to keep Trump happy.

On #cspan today, the author of 'Wakara's America' said he thought that Wakara deserved a book because his ancestors worked with Wakara. Wakara was a powerful Ute Indian leader. He was mainly a horse thief on a very big scale (he was said to have stolen about 3,000 horses), but he and his tribe also sold slaves in the 1840s. His slaves were all from the Paiute tribe. First Wakara sold his slaves to Mormons, and later he became a Mormon, and he took Walker as his new name. #slavery #history
