Public Notice
Lots of reports of crypto spam attacks coming in from multiple instances today.
Seems like the bad guys are getting kinda worried about Mastodon.
Instance admins are taking this very seriously and working hard to fend off the attacks.
What can you do? If you see a crypto scam post, don't engage with it. It's just a bot anyway. If you block and report the post it will help administrators isolate the attacker account.

From a technical perspective, I'm thinking the best way to deal with the #cryptospam #spam issue is with a trigger function in the underlying #PostgreSQL database that would ping a web endpoint:
spam ? add hashtag : retain
Users could then filter out the hashtag

Els desenvolupadors de #Mastodon no estan amb els braços creuats, ni de lluny, amb el problema actual de #cryptospam.
Per exemple, facilitant la vida als admins dels servidors quan suspenem un fotimer de bots spam a l'hora. Amb aquesta modificació, totes les denuncies obertes per spam quedaran automàticament resoltes quan els admins suspenguem tots els bots de cop. -
Els desenvolupadors de #Mastodon no estan amb els braços creuats, ni de lluny, amb el problema actual de #cryptospam.
Per exemple, afegint #captcha en el procés de registre per evitar el registre automàtic i molt ràpid de bots de spam. -
Aquesta matinada hem rebut un altre atac de #cryptospam des del servidor mastodon.world, el primer atac que ja no és des de mastodon.social.
Ja hem suspès tots els bots, 12 en total, i hem informat a mastodon.world. -

Not sure which fades off first. The #cryptospam or the viral toots about it. Probably depends on the instance responding to the spam op and the impact of the ensuing community response. But making cyrptospammers hate the fediverse is part of our collective job.

@jwildeboer @Gargron This does sounds like it may be a good solution regarding the #cryptospam issue, even though I had gotten at least one spam via DM over a day ago and had to report and block it.
Right now, I'm just somewhat worried about the defederation of mastodon.social talk that came up regarding this, since I have been on that instance ever since I came here from the #birdsite as I have not been sure where to go and currently have up to 1,400+ toots now which I'm not about to export.

No soc l'únic que pensa que hi ha una campanya organitzada anti mastodon.social perquè estan coincidint en el temps els atacs de #cryptospam amb tota una sèrie de tuts que diuen que és dolent que hi hagi un servidor tant gran, és dolent que la app oficial destaqui en blau mastodon.social etc.

Anit vaig treure la limitació a mastodon.social, mesura temporal aplicada unes 6 hores per evitar el #cryptospam.
La limitació no és una suspensió ni una desfederació, simplement evita rebre missatges de usuaris de mastodon.social que no estem seguint. -

OK, that's helpful. That's something that people can use to help make a real decision. It's a far cry from permanent isolation.
The same temporary measures might be applied to other instances should they be targets of attack.
Seems like this is the system working.
