Surviving the Aftermath

I have been very quiet for a long time now. Usually, I keep my private life away from this blog because I want it to focus on my gaming experiences and our shared interest in enjoying virtual worlds far away from reality (or close to some kind of reality that we want to face… depending on the games we choose to play). And I know that I do not owe an explanation to a mostly anonymous crowd (or handful of people). But I still think I want to share a little bit about what has been going on here.

About a year ago, we realized – embarrassingly late – that we have been dealing with a narcissist in the family (as much as you can say that without having an official diagnosis, of course, but the person checks all the boxes, unfortunately). I have not had much energy for months now as all the energy I do have goes towards my little family and my job.

Sadly, with a narcissist, the issues cannot be fixed. We can only decide to endure them or move on. We decided for the latter. But it is hard. It only gets better when I realize that the other side apparently does not care about our feelings… or rather, about our daughter’s (this was actually the breaking point for my husband and I).

Anyway, writing is something that apparently I can only do when I am functioning properly. I spend most of my evenings, when our daughter is asleep, playing games. Getting away from reality just seems the most appealing to me. My favourite games have been – as usual – Crusader Kings 3 and Old World. The latter had a new DLC come out a few days ago. It is basically “more of the same”, but a good more!

And then there has been Going Medieval which finally left Early Access! Teddy’s Haven is also one of my “go to” titles for relaxing in the evening. I am also trying to get through Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express. I like this game series, but I cannot stand playing it several days in a row. I can’t even say why.

My newest addition is Mad Television Tycoon. I love every game they released in the past, so I figured I would like this as well, especially after watching a streamer play it. And I may very well like it – once I understand what I am supposed to do. It is Early Access, so I do not expect a full tutorial, but I haven’t seen any guide or hint as to how to start. Then again, said streamer has videos uploaded, so I can just take a look there.

Despite the post title, I have not been playing Surviving the Aftermath recently, by the way. It is too depressing of a game setting. But it is too fitting because my mind feels like it has been on survival mode for too long.

Here is my Steam Replay 2025. This year was very hot or cold, depending on the moment. A lot of things happened in which changed both my method and my ability to play games at the time. Baldur's Gate 3, by far, is still the best game I have played since it's release (which I also played a ton of during its "early access" period.
