#CrowUpdate This, ladies and gentlemen, is a baby crow looking at me from the top of a tree! So, where was it last night? Why did it get me so worried??? (do parent crows tuck the babies to bed early, like humans?)
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure there is only one and that the second one died just one or two days after leaving the nest.
On a side note, I love the utterly confused face baby crows have their first month or so outside of the nest. We have to understand them, ⤵️

#CrowUpdate I didn't see the crows much the past few days, but they came more often than usual on the balcony to get peanuts. This afternoon, they were being pretty loud "talking" (not the usual calls, it really sounded like long conversations) but the park was busy, I was being driven nuts by my PC, I didn't go check. This evening however, Ms Crow came right away, and she was way less shy than usual, Mr Crow came too, they both stayed around quite a long time, then Ms Crow left to a pole, ⤵️

When it rains, it pours. So yesterday I was in bed most of the day because of whatever infection I caught this week. Today, I spent my day being driven nuts by my computer, so I decided to spend some time outside before night fall. I wanted to go to the seaside but I ran into a coworker and her husband. They are lovely people, but neither them nor I wanted to go see the sunset with the other one(s) so I turned around and went to the park (yes, this is a #CrowUpdate) ⤵️

#CrowUpdate Mr and Ms Crow have been coming a lot to beg for peanuts this week (I guess they're too busy to properly look for food for themselves at the moment). However, I'm not sure what the baby situation is. I didn't spend time in the park much as Mr Crow didn't want me to approach the babies this year. This morning I saw one practicing flying (or rather landing on a tree, not that easy) but ⤵️

#CrowUpdate Some baby crows... Disclaimer: it may or may not be the same fledgling. Both pictures were taken a dozen of minutes apart, and I haven't seen two babies at the same time in a while. I couldn't stay long in the park, lots of kids were playing there.

#CrowUpdate
Good morning Mr Crow. This morning, both Mr and Ms Crow came to get their morning peanuts like a regular morning (it hadn't happened in a while). I went for a walk. When I returned, I saw one baby. When I entered the park, Mr Crow emitted one single call, I assume it meant "safe." But shortly after while I was still in the park, both Mr and Ms Crow became agitated, as the garbage truck arrived (maybe second baby was too close?). I left, I don't want to stress them more than they are. -
As both a teacher and a parent, I should know better, but remember that when you try to teach something, you will teach something. Just make sure you teach what you intended to. Trying to teach some gestures to the #crows to communicate with them, I tried to teach them that "empty open hand" meant "I'm out of peanuts." But Ms Crow has definitely learned "Hold on, I'm getting more." Today she even followed me home. She never follows me home usually.
Yes, this was a mini #CrowUpdate -

I guess it's a mix of him not being able to fly much, and also, it was evening, and I think (seeing how the parents flew) they were trying to coral the babies to a safe place for the night, and it was not working yet (I eventually left to not stress them out).
Stay tuned for more in the coming days.

One more #CrowUpdate for today.
During the afternoon, I could only see one baby, and I wondered if the other one was okay, but this evening both were visiting the park under the watchful eye of both parents. Actually the parents were pretty tense. Mr Crow even yelled at me. I think it's the first time ever that Mr Crow yells at me. ⤵️ -
By the way, if you wonder how Mr Crow can get on top of a utility pole despite not being really able to fly, here is how: (and you'll also understand that once he's there, he stays there for as long as possible before coming down)

Alright people, it's time for one of the biggest #CrowUpdate of the year! I heard Mr and/or Ms Crow making quite some noise for the past hour or so in the park. Some familiar calls ("where are you! come here!") and some I heard before but I don't really understand. I suspected something and... I was right!!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to Junior 1 and Junior 2, 2026 edition!!!

#CrowUpdate Good morning Mr Crow. He was waiting for me at the park's entrance this morning. Those are some of my favorite moments with him as then, and only then, he lets me approach him very close (2 meters or even less at times, as long as I don't stare at him).
Meanwhile, in the nest ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate See this black shape in the middle of the leaves? That's a baby crow. And it's not in the nest, it's beside the nest!
(I only see one, it doesn't mean there is only one, but with Mr Crow's health issues, I wouldn't be surprised if they could only feed one - like two years ago)
-
#CrowUpdate Wow, this morning, Mr Crow was waiting for me on the neighbor's roof, and he even came grab the peanuts in the yard while my son was nearby. He must have been really hungry. But that's not all, when I got home, I saw a crow flying toward my car as I was parking it and it was Ms Crow. She too, came down to pick up peanuts I gave her (the park was too crowded). What's happening? I think the baby(ies?) are ready to leave the nest so Mr and Ms Crow have been watching non-stop and ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate I spent some nice quality time with the crows yesterday, both in the morning and the evening (much longer in the evening).
It was nice to see both crows together and staying around me for a long time.
I haven't seen any baby since I got a glimpse of one a few days ago, but I believe they're still there, as the crows have been very aggressive with the South Crows who came too close to the park this week and ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate I went to the park this morning. Ms Crow came and perched on a small tree very close to me (not her habit) I was surprised and messed the picture. Mr Crow was hanging out in the covered part of the park. I think they're both exhausted (and starving) from the past three days and its crazy winds.
Now, a question remained: what about the nest? Yesterday it was so badly shaken that Ms Crow was not even in it and ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate The wind has been insane for the past two days. Possibly the strongest non-typhoon winds I experienced in Japan. Mr Crow is basically grounded. Ms Crow does what she can. Earlier she tried to land on the balcony but a gust blew away the peanuts and their plate. She saw that I saw her, and she landed in the park looking at me (so I went).
The nest is being badly shaken and Ms Crow is not in it to protect the babies, which makes me fear the worst for them. Did they fall? 😱 -
#CrowUpdate Just two pictures of Mr Crow this week. Yesterday morning, he was waiting for me right in front of my house, that was almost dangerous as I only saw him when I drove my car outside to the street) but he's smart, he was in a safe spot despite being an almost blind spot for me. He seemed quite tired yesterday, I suspect that in addition to his wing issues, the two days of rain didn't help (and then it got really really windy).
⤵️
-
Okay, I'm long due for a #CrowUpdate. I don't see them a lot at the moment and Friday evening I spent time with them, but the pictures were all blurry and overall bad somehow.
Today. When I woke up and opened the windows, Mr Crow was hanging out in the park and shortly after seeing me, he went to the balcony (even if I don't see them much, they come get their peanuts in the balcony and the yard every day).
A bit later, I went for a walk and Ms Crow came closer but refused to come down. ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate I spent a few minutes with Mr Crow this morning. I assume that his damaged wings make him tired. He came, ate one peanut, hid the other one, and went on his merry way, not caring about me anymore after that (usually he hangs out). But I assume he must be hungry in addition of being tired, and... I'm 99% sure the eggs have hatched. Ms Crow was flying around this morning, also too busy to spent time with me, especially because Mr Crow can't help a lot.
-
#CrowUpdate I saw Mr Crow a couple of times yesterday (just not close nor in the park, as it was full of screaming children, including my son's friend - that kid is loud). He can fly, but barely (mostly downward).
This morning Ms Crow was moving quite a bit in the nest, which could indicate that the eggs have hatched. I'll check again later today (it's impossible to take decent picture of her in the nest this year, it's very well hidden. On a side note ⤵️ -
#CrowUpdate I know, I'm not posting many of those at the moment. Ms. Crow spends her days in the nest. I don't think the eggs have hatched yet, but it could happen soon. And I don't see Mr. Crow much. I'm afraid that once again, he can't fly anymore. I never see him perched on poles (where he should usually be when Ms Crow is in the nest) and when I see him in the park (only twice this week, including this morning) he only walks, and... ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate I don't see Mr Crow much these days, but from what I've seen of him, he's back at having trouble flying. I really wonder why his feather wings are so fragile. The only options I can think of are age or bad genetics (some people mentioned food, but Ms Crow eats the same as he does, and her feathers are fine). Ms Crow spends most of her days in the nest (well, a crow as on my roof a few minutes ago, and that was probably her) and the babies should hatch any day now, I assume.
-
#CrowUpdate While I heard them (they're more vocal this time of the year) I hadn't seen the crows in a few days. Well, I saw Ms Crow in her nest, but I only saw Mr Crow in the distance. Yesterday I saw him running in the park. Which is odd (crows prefer flying to running), his wings may be in a bad shape again. And this morning when I came out of the house, he was waiting for me!!! ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate Mr Crow is bored, or tired, or both. The good news is that he hangs out in the park more and comes to see me (but he doesn't stay long, which makes me think he's more tired than bored)
-
#CrowUpdate (no pics, sorry). The crows were a bit vocal this morning, not sure why, I couldn't see them except Mr Crow walking in the park. Later, I went to look for them, and Ms Crow showed up right away, grabbed peanuts and left in a rush (I guess she can't leave the nest too long). But seconds later, I saw her chase a black kite away. Where was Mr Crow? Not too far, I spotted him on a pole, but not on top, instead, below the cable. When he does that it's more or less to protect himself ⤵️
-
#CrowUpdate Today a game: can you spot Ms Crow in the nest?
Apart from that, she hasn't left the nest in a day, so she must have laid eggs. Meanwhile, Mr Crow is standing on guard, not even coming down for me. (to his defense there were a bunch of black kites flying low when I was out, and I heard some large-billed crows being loud around the park later, but I was inside and didn't spot them)
-
Update to the #CrowUpdate
I walked by the nest twice one hour or so apart from each other. Both times Ms Crow was in the nest!
I repeat: Ms Crow is in the nest.
-
#CrowUpdate Well, same as yesterday. Both are perched on spots near their nest on the other side of the park and neither came down for a peanut, although I could see one of them who was really tempted but still didn't.
🤷♂️
-
#CrowUpdate The crows were weird today. First, they didn't come to get any of the peanuts I left around my house. However, they were around. I spotted them in the afternoon, perched on poles and cables on the other side of the park, but they didn't move. They didn't even come down when I showed them the peanuts in my hand. It could have been because on this sunny afternoon or pre-spring vacation, the park was full of excited kids, but usually they still come down, just far from the kids. ⤵️

A small flashback from a year ago:
-
Mini #CrowUpdate Some bird trouble this morning in the neighborhood. I didn't see much, but heard more. It sounded like the usual black kite vs crow vs crow.
I did catch this snapshot of Mr and Ms Crow really unhappy about this very wet black kite (it was raining) decided to stop right in the middle of their territory. Some fighting followed (but it quickly move where I couldn't see).
-
#CrowUpdate (make sure to follow the thread, it's a big one) (no big thing happened, just a bunch of small ones, but all in the span of an hour or so)
It started with me returning from work and seeing this from my car!First, I noticed a crow flying (it's one of the crows-by-the-sea) then a black kite on a pole. Then the crow landed right next to the kite, maybe 10-20 cm from it, both within reach of the other's beak.
