One of the things I’m looking forward to doing is writing cron jobs to run on my personal hosting to do fun and silly things.
Stuff like find music recommendations from fediverse artists or do some sort of ascii art generation. Maybe something that updates an RSS feed with interesting things of some kind of fun sort.
Any recommendations for project ideas are welcome!

My homelab got it's final touches. I finally removed #Nextcloud and switched completely to #Stalwart, i added automatic #database backups using #cronjobs for all my #databases, i've set up most of my publicly exposed services to run behind the #cloudflare #proxy, improved the directory structure for my #docker #containers, and finally set up pihole as the #dns server on my router. This feels so good.

@train First, i uninstalled #casaos, since i really wanted to do it on my own. I installed #NginxProxyManager alongside all my services, and configured one after one with ssl, subdomains etc. I also got rid of systemd services for my python scripts and replaced them with #cronjobs. Since i am very bad at networking, i'm pretty proud of the result.
In the last year cronist made sure nearly 100k cronjobs were running correctly or the responsible person was informed otherwise. This is over 260 per day!
It's that time again, cronist will get an overhaul. Design and functionality.
There are so many ideas for improvements and so little time.
The #Docker container is running constantly because the bot constantly runs checks. However, I want the bot to generate some stuff for me, which I can totally do manually once a week, but where is the fun in that?
So I thought, why not add #cronjobs to the container, allow it to run automatically in parallel with the bot without requiring additional containers.
Also, the credentials are in a .ENV, so having the jobs running in the same environment is easier, than running an entirely different config.
Is the best way to run periodic functions, not necessary time-critical, just needs to happen in the correct hour or day, #cronjobs
I am running a #Python bot in a #Docker container, but want weekly or daily things to happen. Adding this to the main loop seems inefficient, because checks will unnecessary be done.
Should I rather use a #Linux image, run the script in the container and then just have cronjobs running in the container, rather than using a Python image.
Storage, memory and processing isn't actually a problem, so using a larger and beefier image is possible.
