  1. Spinsters' Rock, near Chagford, Dartmoor, Devon

Best surviving example of a dolmen or cromlech in Devon, built around 4500-5500 BP. After the stones collapsed in 1862, they were re-erected the same year.

Name refers to the legend that three spinsters (in the occupational sense) were waiting for their woollen cloth to be collected one morning before breakfast and whiled away the time creating this arrangement of stones.

  2. The burial chamber at Lligwy, #Anglesey, was once the home of a #witch. Thrown off a ship for some mischief or other, a fisherman rescued her and she asked him to take her to the #cromlech. There she gave him a charm made of snakeskin which brought him good luck all his life. #TombTuesday #folklore

  3. A beautiful little stone circle in central Portugal: Cromeleque das Fontainhas. Conveniently just off the main road... but quiet and peaceful!

  4. Tombstone Tuesday. There is a field I passed by most of my life Maybe 30 or 40 times a year currently, but probably most days when I was a child. From the road I could see some type of Dolmen in the field. I often thought “I should check that out sometime”. On Saturday I finally did. #Tomb #Tombstone #TombstoneTuesday #AncientStone #Ancestors #Dolmen #PortalTomb #Monument #Cromlech #Ballybrack #Dublin #Ireland #Mastodaoine #BCE #photography #foto
