  1. A peaceful corner of Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve offers open grassy picnic areas, rustic brick buildings, and a modern glass visitor centre overlooking the marshes. Located on the Lincolnshire Coast near Skegness, it is a haven for birdwatching and wildlife photography, with sweeping coastal views stretching to the horizon. The Old Coastguard Station serves as a focal point for visitors exploring the trails and spotting seasonal migratory birds. Popular with nature enthusiasts, the reserve provides a tranquil escape into #NatureReserve landscapes, perfect for #BirdWatching and enjoying the beauty of #CoastalViews along the #LincolnshireCoast.

  4. Meet Einriði the Robin, who visits us daily on the Croft.

In Norse mythology, the Robin was associated with the god Thor and Einriði is another name for Thor in one of the Sagas, composed around the 10th Century.
It means “The one who rides alone”

  5. Some #butterfly from the #croft. I didn't manage to ID but that's my first from close this year.

  6. Things you discover having #chooks on the #croft. They love #seaweed...in particular corallian seaweed. The first time I tried fertilising with seaweed they dispatched a ton bag in 2 weeks.
They also dug out and ate all my winter #tatties which is not supposed to happen but they did.

  7. @exsanguinator That's effectively next door. We are spying the other islands from the #croft :D
I have started a static website about the struggle, still a lot to put on but you may see that we see your island pretty well from the homepage ;)

  8. @Boorhin Aloha fellow crofters. Looks like it's been a busy winter for you. Nice to "meet" other crofters. We are based just below you on Great Bernera #croft

  9. Since mid-December we have been planting #trees from our island on our #croft. This is the 900th tree of different native origins to the Isle of Lewis (Alder, 2 willows, oaks, hazels, hawthorn, blackthorn, rowan and aspen). They were distributed according to the quality of the soil and their liking of other species. We also made a stream to drain the excess water and a couple of ponds. All that to create a 0.3 ha #microforest following the advice and support from the Woodland Trust.

  11. It took me 4 years procrastinating on doing a #jekyll website. We want to have something to show our #croft and the products we sell from it. So here the excuse.
I must admit that it was an amazing experience to make this #staticwebsite. There is no need of much for us and I am toying with the idea of switching all my companies resources on something much more environmentally friendly. We all use too many resources for not much output.

  12. Today we went to pickup #seaweed for our #croft and we ended up cleaning our local cove... There were more bottles than ropes but somehow I find that only considering items in #plasticpollution might give a misleading vision of the main source of pollution here ;) technically we only found 4 #ropes accounting for nx100 kgs.

  13. CW: Sick animal

Not great. Had to help a neighbour carry a sick old ewe down to their barn, through the rain and mud (slick as ice). Poor thing has withered desperately thin and barely has the strength to walk. Put in a barn to dry, with water and a selection of food, but seems the back teeth have worn away, so she seems to struggle to eat. Still, she had the fight to walk a bit of the way, which is good.

Hopefully it's a peaceful exit, all given.
