Important #BloomScrolling update from the #BulbLawn. We’ve got crocus, daffodils and tulips all at once, which is a real treat.
These are all in their first year so timing is all sorts of messed up. Our 60° temp swings back and forth are sure not helping.

ALSO: I got down some Espoma bulb tone minutes before the post-sunset light was gone. I’m watering it in, in the dark. Ya do what ya can when ya can and hope for the best. 🤷🏻♂️

Hey! Important crocus lawn / bulb lawn update.
The crocus are still doing their thing despite being hit HARD by the rabbits. Now that there are other things to eat they seem to have moved on. I never was able to add backing to the temp modular fencing. 😩
The daffodils didn’t appreciate the freeze. Not sure what will happen there. The ones in neighbor hard look to be toast.
Tulips are only just waking up. They seem ok.
Photos from last Saturday.

Last night well after sunset I got the temporary modular fence installed to protect the #CrocusLawn #BulbLawn from the rabbits. The holes are too big, I’ll fix that with chicken wire backing. Seems to have had a bit of deterrent last night.
Third photo is another crocus lawn in our neighborhood I spotted today. Crazy how far behind first years are from established. Same thing happened at the old place.

As I spent too much time making my mockup I realized I likely would have been better off had I went horizontally as shown here. I really don’t think our local bunnies are likely to jump an 18 inch fence.

I happened to have six handy panels for another project on hand. So after work I enjoyed the beautiful weather and chopped them up into three ~2ft x ~4ft sections, taking care to leave some cut wire protrusions to press into the ground like built in stakes.

✅ Marked safe from our weekend project involving a trencher and planting ~100 daffodils ~350 tulips and ~750 crocus 🫠🤯
Plan is to water them in tomorrow and top dress with compost.
My body does not appreciate crawling around on my knees for hours. 👴🏻

Yesterday after finishing up backyard trenching (for conduit) I managed to pull another 150 linear ft across 6 rows in the front yard for ~338 tulip bulbs, which also got planted.
Would you believe me if I told you I’m sore this morning? 😅
Later today it’s two more 6 inch deep 24 ft trenches for daffodils and however many 4 in rows I can fit in the rest of the space for crocus, while leaving a push mower sized gap by the sidewalk as a “cue to care”

LOL. I look up and there’s a guy from the power company staring at me. So I take an AirPod out.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m planting bulbs. What are YOU doing?”
“I’m with [power co] responding to a call.”I stare at him, he stares at me.
“So, how can I help you?” He just stares at me. So I get back to work. And he eventually leaves.I’ve called 811 three times in the past six months. I only need to worry about gas and water lines that are minimum 18 inches deep… where I’m not trenching.
GTFO dude, and Karen neighbors.

This morning I ran the second backyard trench to where shed 2 will be… someday. So much fun.
On to the front yard for the #BulbLawn!
Once I pull the trench I plant the bulbs because on the next run, the auger takes soil from the in-progress trench and fills the last one. LOVE IT.

The purples have already popped up in our #CrocusLawn, far ahead of last year. This is the magic time where both yellow and purple overlap. Yellows are first and purples come about halfway through yellow bloom.
Seems a fair amount of blooms didn’t make it with last Friday’s snow, though. More energy for next year!
