#crochet community, I need your #help!

My mom is just getting back to crochet (she really needs a hobby and there's a crochet group she'd like to attend regularly).
She's picked up hook and #yarn, but she soon feels pain in the hand which is holding the fabric (no problem with the hook hand). She has #arthritis in both hands.
Any suggestions on how to diminish the pain?

Nearly 10 years ago I made this #blanket for my then teenaged son. He was the world's greatest #Minecraft fan at that time (of course).

The biggest challenge was finding a yarn that was available in in three different shades of blue and gray and four shades of green. Additionally I wanted a DK weight and acrylic. Stylecraft DK worked out.

Size is about 1.5 m x 2 m.

I'm pretty sure that from now on, but with some rare exceptions (dotpebbles) I will crochet toys and knit garments.
