Online Course on Critical Discourse Analysis
8 October – 12 November 2026
This fall course offers a practical introduction to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). While the course covers key theoretical assumptions and concepts, the focus is on how to do critical discourse analysis. Specifically, students will be introduced to different approaches to CDA and how these approaches may be applied and combined.

I came to Norman Fairclough late, and by accident. A Language Insufficiency Hypothesis was printed without a single reference to critical discourse analysis, which in retrospect looks less like restraint than like a gap in my reading.

What do you understand by the verbs 'construe' & 'construct'?
Which would you use & why to describe the way language (or we/#AI) refers to/represents reality?

I used to regularly attend the #CADAAD conference, but I'd missed the last couple of times
The fact they've scheduled the next one in Poland confirms I won't be coming again
YMMV, but the country with the worst #LGBTQ+ protections in the EU seems to me no place to hold a conference on #CriticalDiscourseAnalysis — and certainly not somewhere I'd feel safe visiting

Following this thread with interest 🕵🏽♀️
Some observations from a non-tech perspective: 1 as a former #tleap tutor (English for Academic Purposes), the learning styles essay (albeit shorter than average EAP assignments) would warrant a high grade; 2 fact-checking in #HigherEducation is an inconsistent practice; 3 who is working on a 'critical literacy of #AI'?
I am looking at #hermeneutics #CriticalDiscourseAnalysis #CriticalRealism but not yet formally doing the research.

I'm a professional procrastinator trying to finish a doctorate at #QUB (send prayers to my poor supervisor) researching how abortion myths become legitimated as facts through everyday talk. #socialscience, #ethnomethodolgy #CriticalDiscourseAnalysis, #socialequality, #EBPM #practicalrationality #AbortionisHealthcare
