  5. CW: stylized action / police-procedural themes

Dark Rooms Horror Movies presents “SOLVED CASE”, a tense crime noir vignette about two officers whose partnership fractures during a high stakes investigation. When a routine evidence search turns into a heated confrontation, the situation spirals just as the suspect unexpectedly returns to the scene. What follows is a chaotic, split second clash that leaves the case — and the team — in ruins.
Blending dramatic pacing, partner conflict, and the studio’s signature gritty atmosphere, SOLVED CASE delivers a compact, emotionally charged entry in the Dark Rooms procedural lineup.

  9. Brooklyn Motto (Alex Johnson, 2025)

Sometimes you need a book to take you back, not to relive who you were, but to remember how it felt to be becoming someone. Art gives us that gift: revisiting youth without getting stuck there.

Johnson's crime novel did that for me.

  16. Got a bit more done on the #crimenoir, though it's very slow. I feel like Jacob Marley dragging all those chains "these are the plots I thought would work..."
    #amwriting #ifslowly

  17. Got a decent half-chapter done in my #crimenoir yesterday and today around other weekend stuff. Feeling my way with the tone..

  18. I have now rewritten the first chapter of my #crimenoir seven times, trying various things out. None of them quite right, so instead of starting version eight today, I'm going to finish The Forest of Wool and Steel by Natsu Miyashita and watch it rain with the cats.

  19. Physically, I'm in a Waterstones, mentally, I'm in a bar in Manhatten in 1938 watching my PI drink. She is not a happy camper.

  20. #WritersCoffeeClub 30: What POV do you mostly write in? Why?
The #llamas, third person. When they speak, they speak for the herd first, themselves second.
For #crimenoir, first person (mostly). That's just how it is, you're looking at the investigation through their eyes.

  21. Tonight, I am trying to fix my #crimenoir block by writing the plot outline again from the perspective of the antagonist. I suspect his behaviour doesn't hang together - so her reacting to clues, etc, doesn't either.
Feels a bit like playing chess with only the white pieces on the board.
    #amwriting

  22. Working on the #crimenoir and trying to keep the story moving without revealing too much. Have new respect for Rex Stout, who made it look so easy. #amwriting

  23. #WritersCoffeeClub 5: What genre is your WIP?

Well, my #llama book is fantasy once it's on paper (inside my head it's a lot more complicated).
I'm also working on a #crimenoir set in 30s New York with a female lead and no murders.
Lastly, I've a #steampunk in the planning stage, solely so I can write about steam powered mechanical giraffes.

Super focussed and organised as usual.

  24. #WordWeavers 11/19. Do you ever use mundane daily tasks to show character or world-build?
My #crimenoir PI does spend an inordinate amount of her time in diners and drugstores drinking coffee and making lists. Partly because she doesn't have an office, but mainly because I have to write the place first, then add the people, not the other way around.

  25. Signed a contract with Fairwood Press last week! My 1934 Fantasy Crime Noir novel now has a home! Scroll down to the Forthcoming Books list to see the listing.

Excited to work with fellow pulp enthusiast Patrick Swenson!

  27. Been a good day for writing. More #crimenoir, plotted and this evening got a bit more editing on my llama book done and can see a dot of light at the end of the camelid tunnel. #amwriting

  28. Spent the morning on a coffee fueled session in 1930s New York. My PI is struggling to keep herself occupied beteeen jobs. Little does she know!
    #amwriting #crimenoir

  29. It's Sat, it's time to write. This week, my coffee shop habit is helping me plot some #crimenoir
Got next week off, so getting organised!

  30. happy #ncbd to DEATH DROP: DRAG ASSASSIN #2! if you’re swinging by your #lbcs, you can now pick up the second instalment of this queer crime noir by David Hazan, Lucas Gattoni and yours truly from Scout Comics- would love to hear what you think! ✨💅✨

  31. Sitting staring at the blank screen. I've over plotted. Does that happen to other folk? You work out what's going to happen, in so much detail, that when you come to write it, you can't. My protagonist is sitting in a diner wondering what's going on, and all I feel like doing is shouting in her ear, "it's him. Look! Why can't you see it? "

Usually, I plot enough for structure but not so much that I can't be surprised as I write. Now I've gone and punctured the balloon.

  32. happy #sequentialsaturday! in terms of fully polished pages, this spread from @olliegerlach and mine’s short for limit break comics' DOWN BELOW contains some of my favourite design elements and lettering (uh minus the dialogue being WAY too big 😅)

  33. Doing some plotting while the rain hammers down outside. My 2022 NaNoWriMo ended up as a stew of 'random unrelated events as I thought of them'. Time to give it some structure! Writing people is so much harder than llamas..
