I created https://thebarbarellalibrary.com a year or so ago to document the 4 Barbarella stories and their various editions. After I moved to Italy, influenced by how Crepax's Valentina was spoken of in the same manner that Forest's Barbarella was, I decided to adapt the web framework for her. As I did so I collected more books and realized that... people need to learn her stories. Here's a start.

Continuing reading the #Crepax #Valentina collection and just finished the two-part story "Baba Yaga" and "Barbablu". In it, a witch enchants Valentina to fulfill a prophecy and uses that enchantment to disarm the powers of her partner, Philip Rembrandt, from discovering or breaking the spell. This and "La forza di gravità" had excellent storytelling and layout. Crepax can go far afield with the S&M, so having the story succeed in keeping focus is even more impressive.

I'm reading the Crepax Valentina stories (I picked up the 7 volume Blue Press set from 1994 for a really good price) and just finished "La forza di gravità". Wow. A sci-fi told really well with an amazing synthesis of writing and drawing and it leaves events appropriately untold or delayed. This would be a fascinating movie. It's got the quality (not the story) of something like Arrival with it's low-key character-driven presence.
