I think I've found the budgeting app I'm going to use for now, and I landed on Rocket Money. The interface works the way I want it to (mostly) and I've already categorized all of September, set budgets, and can see what I have leftover.

Importing all of my accounts was easy enough, and successful, so I can see my financial status in one place.

Setting up budgets was a little more tricky than it should be, since you can add categories, but only in the settings overlay. Why not put it on the budgets page where it's all summarized!

I eventually found out that you can also add budget categories when you go to categorize a transaction. But that's not where I'm expecting to find it.

They also have a cool calendar view and that shows recurring income/spending, which I do like.

I do wish they had an iPad app, but the website will work, of course. Rocket Money also has a variable subscription model, where you can set a price, and I think the range is $0-$20/month.

I tried Intuit's Credit Karma budgeting, but it's so barebones, it wasn't worth it for me. Isn't it great they bought mint and did something with it /s

It should be illegal for #CreditKarma to email you things like "Jason: Something's new with your open accounts."

And it's just an advertising email that follows up with "Just a monthly reminder to check your accounts."

Nothing is fucking new with my accounts, but thanks for making it seem like there was fraud I needed to address right away.

#Mint and #Intuit made a lot of noise about Mint being officially retired on March 23. But then yesterday I get a Mint summary email. 🤦‍♂️ Cool.

Made the (forced) last-second switch from #mint to #CreditKarma and wow what a train wreck. Pretending like these were going to be anything alike is massively deceptive, #Intuit.

Also, feature parity with Mint is clearly not a priority for Credit Karma.

What they have isn't even a faint Mint substitute. But even that isn't even visible from the menus. (It's under https://www.creditkarma.com/networth - bookmark that, because there's no way to find it).

It honestly feels like the whole purpose is to get people to agree once to a looser set of terms and conditions on a full credit check - at which point, unless you're a 20-something to sell additional credit cards to on mobile, they've already extracted all of the value they're going to get from you.

I'm canceling and will be looking for something better.

If you're migrating from Mint to Credit Karma, be aware that a TransUnion freeze will silently block the migration. The interface throws an inaccurate "your information does not match the credit bureau" error. The non-virtual chat staff do not have this in their stock list of remedies to a credit bureau info "mismatch." Just schedule a temporary unfreeze for the same day, wait 15 minutes, and then restart the migration process.

(And since credit freezes aren't supposed to apply to ID verification checks ... this means that Credit Karma is very likely using a deeper check than is necessary to validate ID alone, even though this step is supposed to be for ID purposes only. 🤔)

Further, if you've already tried to migrate once, your account will be in a half-completed state. You will need to open a ticket with Credit Karma to delete your half-created account so that you can start over. This is a shortcut to the ticketing system to do this. Still enjoying #Quicken #Simplifi after about a month and a half. With the #Intuit #Mint shutdown coming in March – well, transition to what by all accounts is a subpar experience in #CreditKarma – I’m glad I was able to find a good replacement.

They recently announced a full one year trial for switchers:

Here is the #IntuitMint FAQ for moving to #CreditKarma. The email I just got seems to indicate that *some* features from #mint will be available, but not budgeting.

I may wait a bit and see if they manage to provide enough features for me to be happy, since I'm (personally) less concerned with budgeting than I am with tracking transactions, investments, assets, etc.
