  1. "I can tell you something about this place. The boys around here call it "The Black Lagoon" - a paradise. Only they say nobody has ever come back to prove it."

All shot practically using real lighting, figures, tin foil for water and cotton wool for water splashes.

  4. Creature from the Black Lagoon (Little Windups by Azrak Hamway)

Not since the beginning of time has the world beheld terror like this! Centuries of passion pent up in his savage heart! Terrifying monster ravages mankind!

And so reads the tagline for Universal’s Creature from the Black Lagoon. Released in 1954, Creature from the Black Lagoon was, like all the Universal monster movies, a special effects triumph. Starring a creature dubbed “Gill-man”, […]

  6. Actually, The Creature costume looks *way* better than Star Trek's original Gorn costume (a vaguely similar creature, minus the webbing and gills) which was over 10 years later (1967). I had forgotten how bad TV budgets used to be even compared to the low movie budgets of the time.

Another edition of "What happened to the suit?"

    2. A janitor snagged the costume out of a dumpster for a Halloween costume for his son.
    3. Collectors eventually bought key pieces.

  9. @JoeWynne I think I would have watched this movie 10x in the theater for the original release -- the effects and those underwater and cave shots had a lot going for them. #Monsterdon #CreaturefromtheBlackLagoon Oh hey, the crew had no issue with shooting at the creature when it was hand-to-hand fighting with David in the cave! Lucky they didn't shoot David, or maybe they were just really good shots.

  10. I know we're supposed to make fun of this for being a terrible movie, but I have nothing intelligent to say other than practical effects are just better. As silly as all this is, the costume actually looks pretty good even though it was 1954.
