I just spent about 40 minutes taking a Creative Australia/Creative Workplaces survey on pay and working conditions, workplace safety, bullying etc.
Noticeably lacking from the survey was any substantial section on mental or physical health problems resulting from the economic/political sphere of the creative industries.
Or on the implications and effects of AI on the workplace and work conditions.
We in the creative industries are increasingly outliers in the economic and political landscape here in Australia, which has serious consequences for our cultural and community development into the future.
The malady of political correctness in arts and culture is only going to get worse, too.

The Creative Australia Amendment (Implementation of Revive) Bill 2024 was introduced to Parliament today. It will establish First Nations Arts and Writing Australia as new parts of Creative Australia alongside Music Australia and Creative Workplaces.

Because this disproportionally effects marginalised and disabled artists, by increasing the financial barrier to entry, solving this problem is a basic #Accessibility & #SocialJustice issue.
Funding this insurance, by becoming the insurer directly, should be a focus of #CreativeAustralia nee #AustraliaCouncil. There’s no point in the government funding grants to organisations, if Artists at large can’t afford to practice safely.

"Have you had a book published in the last 5 years? Is your print book held in public or educational libraries? Do not forget to submit your title claims to the Public and Educational Lending Right schemes via the Office for the Arts to have eligible books registered for inclusion before the 31 March deadline.
