  1. @PseudoNovalis it’s 1991 and I’m tearing around Tasmania blasting music from a portable CD player with a tape adapter. On the newly purchased CD is Arc-Weld. 30 minutes of feedback on one disk, the other two Neil live with Crazy Horse.

There’s an article on UnCut now where Moore talks about SonicYouth touring with Neil & the 🐎 at that time.

“There’s a Wikipedia entry that says it was from watching Muddy Track that I gave Neil the idea of doing a record of guitar feedback [1991’s #Arc, with #crazyhorse But Neil only really started getting into that on the Smell The Horse tour that we were on. A lot of it was predicated upon him hearing us doing “Expressway To Yr Skull”, which would always be our last piece of the night. We started getting more and more crazy at these gigs, playing longer and longer improvisations of feedback guitar noise.

I was walking out into the audience with an extra long guitar cable and rubbing my guitar in people’s faces and throwing folding chairs around. Nobody really paid any notice, but we found out that Neil could hear it from his dressing room. He got so enamoured by it that he started coming out just to listen. Then he started employing longer feedback guitar-playing in his own pieces, much to the chagrin of a lot of his audience.”

Arc-Weld was the music I was listening to at the time while I was driving. I only just found out their was an SonicYouth/NY album that was planned playing this kind of feedback distortion.
