That change happened in 19th c with the industrialisation, when cheaper work was done in "home labor" by women and children. At that time, men took the better paid jobs, the ones with design, responsability, e.g. tailors. But before, it was different! ***
Therefore, modern women reclaim these arts. Watch #craftivism, or #collaborativeArt which is often very political.
Btw, most of our young learners for embroidery are ... boys!

I’m thinking of getting more involved with #craftivism. It commonly focuses on knitting or crocheting (e.g., the red resistance hats in MN), but since I can’t knit and don’t know how to crochet hats, I’m exploring other possibilities.

For ex, I’ve seen resistance-related stickers, bracelets, keychains, lanyards, painted rocks, sidewalk chalking…
