There were two wombats sometimes chasing each other as they would chew on blades of grass. We spent maybe 30 or 40 minutes standing there, watching them.

Everyone seems to love the wombats from Cradle Mountain eating the grass! These were all taken on the Sigma 150-600mm Sports lens, handheld. We also spotted a number of Native Hens called Turbo Chooks with their bright red eyes.

After the walk around Dove Lake, we returned to Ronny Creek where I changed over to my 600mm lens in very lite rain, hoping to see the wombats again. Expecting them to be a long way away, it was tricky to take a photo of this one, which was almost at my feet.

Walking around Dove Lake, we finally get to the scenic side of The Boatshed.
I set the camera on pebbles aligned my shot & took it, then the tide came in! By the time that I realised, the water was just starting to touch the bottom of the front glass element, and the base of the camera was saturated.

My first visit to Cradle Mountain in the Tasmanian wilderness was a drizzly wet day. We made our way to the Ronny creek stop, and after watching the wombats for a while, we made our way back to the bus stop passing by this boulder jutting out of the grass.

My first visit to Cradle Mountain in the Tasmanian wilderness was a drizzly wet day. We made our way to the Ronny creek stop, headed about 100m up the path and came across a group of wombats in the rain! The wombats were about 30m away from us, and completely unbothered by the humans.

The mountain, of course, is beautiful.
Oh, look! They finished this thing! Trekked up to Cradle Mountain, today. Haven't been for a while and it was nice to connect with the great outdoors on the kind of scale that only a good mountain can provide. They have finished the viewing centre and new toilet block next to the lake. It nestles in unobtrusively and can't be seen for most of the walk.
Not great photos, but I'm pleased to have had the chance to catch up with some #Tasmanian #wildlife over the last week, including #TasmanianDevil in Loongana (#MountainValley), Duck-billed #Platypus in #Loongana and #Eugenana (#TasmanianArboretum), Bare-nosed Wombat at #CradleMountain and Red-bellied Pademelon everywhere.
