  1. Got great energetic chiptune beats for what your weary brain just needs! Still time left for Bandcamp Friday - grab Dubmood’s latest, yeah it’s mighty!💾⚡️

    *Third installment in @Dubmood’s Lost Floppies series. A compilation of chiptune cracktro, keygen and installer soundtracks used in the PC demo and cracking scenes since the release of the previous Lost Floppies volume 2.*

  2. Silly idea:

    Put C64-cracktros into modern games. I mean, modify the executable and add a full C64-emulator that runs a 6502-assembly-cracktro.

    Imagine some 8 bit scrollers and SID tunes before Cyberpunk 2077 fires up.

    I wonder if this is possible. Wouldn't that be fun and silly?

  4. This weekend it's Buxton Bytes, a little demo party that's going to have lots of new Atari cracktro screens released, including mine.

    There's still time to submit something. URL: phfhq.org/bb/

    I've got a few more ideas for future screens, so it's highly likely I'll get another one together this year - so much less pressure than making a major release!

  5. #ufo50 starts with a #cracktro style screen. And it's glorious touch.

  6. The video of my second #DOS #cracktro got disfigured by the re-encoding so I now uploaded a better version to PeerTube.

    A better video because of the encoding but also because it properly attributes the music to its creator, Hannes Seifert.

  7. Relatively in time for the announcement of #Civilization 7, I present to you my second #cracktro for my crack and +4 trainer for Civilization 1 (v474.05) for #DOS!

    Again a sine scroller with a rainbow colored text, technically this one is very different:

    * VGA Mode X: 320x240! 60Hz! Page flipping! Planar hell!
    * Fluid, wavy text
    * Water-like reflection using VGA "latch copying"
    * Text fading out nicely
    * Uses a minimal number of plane switches (faster)

    Works on real hardware, too!

  8. After many hours I finally have all the pieces of my first #cracktro together!

    Features:

    * Sine-scrolling text
    * Star field
    * Custom font
    * VGA palette cycling
    * Music
    * Greets
    * Anti-lamer measures

    Written in Turbo C with a touch of assembly for the music (powered by the amazing RAD lib by Reality)

    And it actually works on real #DOS on real hardware!

    It was fun to work on something that didn't teach me any skills I could use in real life today.

    (see next posts for deets, am out of chars)

  11. Been a busy couple of days trying to keep my head on straight while the Between the Scanlines fanzine is taking off, but catching up on some bits and pieces here and wanted to share something that I still find fascinating - the global organization of cracking groups in cracktro scenes, in this case Fairlight - one of the more (in)famous.

    Active in early 90s cyberspace (aka pre-Web and BBS's) and in meatspace, from Stevenage to Abu Dhabi, it's amazing to see how organized they could be - or at least appeared to be. Sometimes it was a bit of smoke-and-mirrors to make themselves seem larger, but from what I've seen, Fairlight were a busy ol' lot.
