So when you see an area on the map with 0%, I would advise caution: use the date function on the map to roll back to last week, and check if they're reporting at all.

My feeling is that all the areas reporting 0% are in real trouble.

Our Covid PCR Positivity map has updated again this week, and there are some areas I'd like to focus on.

National prevalence has climbed to high levels after a very brief decline - you can hardly call that a trough - but it looks to me like there's further to go.

I've just been for a nice 5-day break in Alnmouth, Northumberland. Out of a house of 9, 3 of us have tested positive for covid with another 3 showing symptoms. My aunt has just been admitted to a frailty ward and half the beds are covid patients.

Yup, except the part about cloth masks.

Latest reports say a well fitting cloth mask can cut transmissions enough to be worth wearing. Apparently they still work better than a badly fitted surgical mask.

I have a decent cloth mask - it has a nose clip and n95 removable filters.

Also, they come in dark blue/ black, which is an aesthetic I like.

I.E. The UK government aren't bothering with a wider use of vaccines and masks, even though it could slow the spread, as it doesn't suit their political aims.

There's nothing about Long COVID risks, or how the virus damages organs, such as the heart and puts everyone at greater risk of an early death.

#reasonstobecheerful It's either Day 4 or 5 of #covid hell and despite a night of coughing, I may actually get dressed today. Chest tightness/breathlessness still there, as are 'normal' cold symptoms. Best way to differentiate between the two is summed up in the picture - that's what my chest has felt like with Covid.

Day 3 of enforced #covid bedrest. Slightly better, in that aches, shivers have gone and sore throat and headache have improved. BUT still exhausted, breathless, coughing, no appetite, no sense of smell and everything tastes weird. Also pulled ribs hurt and my usual #ankylosingspondylitis problems of hip/back/neck pain have worsened. It's NOT just a cold or #coldvid. #maskup #coviduk #covidisntover

If anyone thinks #covid is over, I'm (almost) living proof that it's not. Coughed so much I've pulled intercostal muscles, breathless, headache, sore throat, aching, shivering, temperature. No appetite and anything I do eat tastes utterly bland or metallic. Second year in a row the OH has brought it back from Rebellion festival!

ZOE #COVID (UK) estimates: I figured out where most of the daily revisions come from.

I think ZOE apply a 7-day centred smoothing, to the 0-17 age group only.

It makes the last three days a bit unstable (but not in the other age groups).
