  1. I've been sick these last several days, and at each stage of my illness I've covid-tested using the huge stockpile of tests our community keeps. It would have cost me $50 to buy these tests at Walgreens, but instead I had access to free tests thanks to (drumroll please) community organizing.

Monday I get to go visit Grandma again FINALLY, with this cold or whatever behind me.

Cuz I'm sure as hell not gonna be the one to kill her.

  2. Researchers: Not testing for Covid-19 is creating problems (Jan 22, 2026) "People have become sicker after the pandemic, but without Covid-19 testing it's difficult to understand why." www.sciencenorway.no/covid19-long... #Covid #CovidTesting #Testing #Norway

  3. Does anyone have a more up-to-date review of molecular / PCR-style COVID tests? My last research was based on this Lifehacker article: lifehacker.com/where-to-find-a

The next-best 3EO COVID-19 Test doesn't seem to exist anymore, their website is down: 3eohealth.com/products/covid-1

The last remaining option seems to be the Metrix covid test, which costs $25/test as opposed to Pluslife's $10/test, and is a bit less accurate. This is not acceptable.

  4. After a week of being told to try again later, I was finally able to submit a request for some free covid tests here:

This site is for US addresses only. Feel free to reply with resources for other countries and I'll boost them!

  5. CW: Covid testing timeline question

A practical question which I'm trying to think through:

Supposing you might have been exposed to covid, and you have access to NAAT testing like #Pluslife or #Metrix.

How many days after the possible exposure would you expect to see a positive result if you'd caught it?

From the diagram in this paper, it looks as though for this cohort, a negative test on day 3 would mean you _hadn't_ caught it.

    Thoughts welcome!

  6. I dunno if anyone will not have heard, but the fancy Cue Health NAAT molecular #Covid test, with the handheld gizmo, has been revealed to be a near fraud. The FDA found that the company implemented non-approved changes to reagent formulations and device firmware post-EUA that will have significantly reduced the test’s accuracy.

In response to the FDA’s letter, the company elected to go out of business.

    Don’t use these tests.

  7. At the suggestion of others, I switched to Aptitude's Metrix for NAAT Covid19 testing (Thank you to those who suggested it!!). It's a little more fiddly as far as parts and process, but I'll take that over "false negatives" and "closing down".

So you can only get a free test from a pharmacy if you’re eligible. You can’t report result because you’re eligible. You can’t report a paid for test. So nobody can report test results? Have I got that right? It can’t be correct as it would imply that nobody can report positive tests. They don’t tend to test in hospitals either. What is going on??

  9. 🇨🇳 China restarts COVID-19 testing in hospitals, airports.

"Authorities in China have started testing people for COVID-19 again in hospitals and transportation hubs as a wave of respiratory disease tears through the country, according to local residents and government directives."

  10. 🇳🇿New Zealand: Kiwis may face COVID-19 testing in Samoa amid new wave of cases.

"Samoa’s director-general of health, Aiono Dr Alec Ekeroma, announced 30 new cases of the virus in the country, with 5 of them recorded at the border."

  11. A new survey shows people strongly prefer different types of COVID-19 testing for various reasons – speed of results, noninvasive, at home, etc. Offering multiple testing options could increase testing uptake.

  12. Anybody out there using Cue COVID testing? With testing options dwindling and result times likely to be longer, we've been contemplating alternatives in our household, and molecular tests are an item of discussion. Efficacy seems to be where it should be. The issue with Cue is the price. We noticed that our local grocery store pharmacy (Safeway) is going to start offering quick turnaround molecular testing at about the same price per test (not including the initial layout for the Cue tester hardware). I'm wondering if they are using Abbott ID Now.

    Any thoughts?
