@STATnews @HelenBranswell was the only one reporting on covid as early as January 1, 2020 in the US. I remember seeing it that day and noting to myself that it was something to keep tabs on.

I think also, because they don’t allow themselves to see this as a real issue, but only as some kind of irrational delusion of ours, they feel generous to let us know we’re still welcome whenever we finally snap out of it. This doesn’t come across the way they think it will. -

Years ago I followed Physics Girl on Twitter, and I remember her getting Covid (mild) and then Long Covid. She posted less and less and finally had to stop. Her desperation was palpable. She now estimates she's functioning at 30-40% of her former capacity. There are 1 million Americans who cannot work because of Long Covid. Don't get Covid. It is not 'just a cold.'

Had the COVID vaccination today at a local hospital where (being Japan) everyone was masked. Shoulder starting to feel sore. As before, the dull pain will probably last a day or so.
Was recalling having to queue at the municipal gymnasium where hundreds were waiting to be vaccinated in the early days.
Contrasted with this afternoon being the only session set by the hospital for this week and only 8 people had booked a shot.

#Flu and #RSV case counts and hospitalization percentages are rising but low. I #gotvaccinated yesterday!

Is it just me or do people seem more reluctant to vaccinate you against covid than they do against influenza? In Germany I see some advertisements for influenza vaccination, offers from employers, etc. But nothing for covid. On the contrary, some doctors even tell you "no covid vaccination" while doing influenza vaccinations.

I have complicated feelings about people who think #COVID is bad and want to avoid it but think the vaccine is sufficient because every authority figure and expert told them it was. I think they’re going to get blindsided sooner or later.

I'm at the hospital right now for an outpatient appointment (don't worry, nothing serious). Even though I had my covid jab a little over 2 weeks ago and my flu jab a couple of weeks before that and am probably maximally protected round about now, it just seems like basic common decency to wear a mask.
I am so far the only person I have seen, patient or staff, doing so.
WTF is wrong with people? It's a hospital, FFS.

Reminder: #AirborneInfections have no end season. They are year round. It just increases in months where people are gathered indoors, unmasked, more often. Airborne viruses don't care if you believe in their year round infection powers or not. Better to try & avoid catching them in the first place. Preventative health is insufficient when you're not masking indoors around a bunch of strangers.
