  1. I remain cautious about #COVID19, particularly during surges, but it's really something to see how far COVID signals have fallen this year.

COVID positive rate today is 64% lower than at this point last year.

COVID in wastewater is 80% lower than this time last year.

Our next surge will start from the lowest point we've seen in six years. I'll be monitoring data this summer to see if all of our hopeful trends continue.

  3. Some things are so obvious that you feel that they do not require a study. Fortunately, some researchers also scrutinise apparently obvious issues, e.g. whether #COVID19 #vaccines reduce #SARSCoV2 transmission. Hence, the finding that they do is very reassuring:
"Household contacts of primary case participants vaccinated 6 months or less before onset had nearly one-half the infection risk compared with contacts of unvaccinated primary case participants." #vaccine #vaccination

  4. Interesting STUDY of #COVID19 cardiac risks in the Omicron era (supposedly the "mild" variant):

On one hand, rates of thromboembolic events were higher, particularly 30 days after infection but lasting 6 months after.

On the other hand, individuals who received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine had lower rates, and rates were not higher among those with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection.

  5. Norovirus, COVID-19 and hantavirus may look similar at first, but they spread differently and affect the body in different ways. Here’s a simple guide to understand their symptoms, risks and prevention english.mathrubhumi.com/lifest #Norovirus #COVID19 #Hantavirus

    Still incorrect.

#COVID19 DOES impair / weaken your immune system.

Every single person who has had at least one episode of #COVID19 has an imparied immune system.

  12. CW: Covid vax, US

If anyone is planning to get a spring Covid vax, I recommend to inquire with your pharmacy to find out what your options are, sooner than later. Mine has a dwindling supply of doses but many are expiring at the end of this month and they didn't know when more would be available (bc of course they don't). So I got #Novavax #Nuvaxovid

  14. Today's “Duh!” research, but I guess I'm glad to see the findings:

“New research has found that #COVID19 patients who were vaccinated against the virus were much less likely to infect household members than unvaccinated patients… The household contacts of patients vaccinated in the past six months were 43% less likely to test positive than household contacts of unvaccinated sick people.”

I would never say "lockdowns caused problems for mental health," because our capitalist democratic governments caused all the problems with their "get them infected" necropolicies.

  19. Updated CDC data:

Wastewater remains at the lowest level in years across all four US regions. (The Northwest had a small uptick in the last week or two, but recent data is preliminary.) Every state is at very low viral activity except WV and AK (at low).
    cdc.gov/wastewater/respiratory

The CDC estimates that #COVID19 infections are growing or likely growing in just one state: Arizona.

Positive rate of testing is also at the lowest point in years: syndromictrends.com/

  21. I saw a COVID-exaggerating account post that WastewaterSCAN shows a #COVID19 uptick. They're reacting to a ONE DAY minuscule change. For months, we've had minor upticks (lasting up to 4 days) in an overall 5.5-month downward trend. So, a one-day change is pretty meaningless.

My expectation is we'll see a relatively flat (and very low) period lasting another month or so. Then, we'll track how much of a summer surge the US sees. The next two surges will tell us much about COVID's future!
