The candles’ wax
has dripped and run,
smoke cataracts
still cloud wicks’ suns

and shafts of light
through windows barred
are faded, slight
like the penitent’s scars

as he sits there
in his cell, alone,
on barren chair,
his lonely throne.

Rose hips

An ancient rose,
she’s trellised high.
Her velvet folds:
love’s fleeting sigh.

Damascus scent,
French pedigree,
in a purple tent
though wild and free.

From Aquitaine
I bore her hence,
her prickles’ pain:
sin’s sacrament.

Autumnal chill:
soft petals fade —
her thorns rest, filled
with love’s remains.

Serene she’s stayed,
grace still abides:
her blush decayed,
by thorns belied.

rock veins under veils
by mason’s hands known.

A house built to wear
a Lady’s veiled wisdom,
her hair, ringed by stars,
lit with stainèd glass prisms.

They shine on her throne,
the seat of her mind,
where our love has long grown,
sung on chords intertwined.
