Stumps on day one at Edgbaston. England are 156-4 in their first innings, already 23 ahead of Pakistan's pathetic 133 all out. Elsewhere Glamorgan have disgraced themselves by twice being bowled out in the 60s against Warwickshire, meaning that that match is over on its second day, Somerset are in command against Leicestershire, and Nottinghamshire are going to have show more enterprise than they did against Leicestershire to beat Hampshire.

  5. Gloucestershire have finally declared, but their cowardice in batting on for so long certainly means a drawn match. Derbyshire will have an official target of 318 in 45 overs, and with an ask of seven an over will make no attempt at the chase, being content to bat out time.

  6. Northamptonshire showing how not to handle a fourth innings run chase. Set 205 to beat Durham they are now 32-6, with Parkinson claiming four cheap wickets.

  7. The draw at Nottingham that now looks likely will mean that Somerset head into the last three matches of the season at the top of the table - they have 167 points and Nottinghamshire will have 163 with eight for the draw today.

  8. Gloucestershire trying to build enough of a lead to declare. They will have to gamble at some point, as in their current desperate straits they cannot afford even a draw. A possibility is seeing how many they can score this morning and declaring at lunch to give themselves two full sessions to attempt to take 10 wickets.

  9. Two more wickets for Leach at Taunton, and Essex are now 350-6 in their second innings, a mere 39 runs in credit with four wickets left. They need a bare minimum of another 100 from here to feel safe, which will take a lot of scoring. Harmer is a very competent batter, but not especially noted for the speed at which he scores his runs.

  10. Lunch on day three in the #CountyChampionship. In the match I am following Essex are 135-3 in their second innings, 176 short of making Somerset bat a second time.

It's worth remembering that the ECB could have poured money into the existing domestic T20 tournament (turning it into a IPL/Big Bash/CPL), maybe relaxing the rules on overseas players, and could have supported #CountyCricket instead of creating a brand new format that nobody else plays (in the hope that they could sell that format worldwide). The Hundred takes domestic players away from their counties during the domestic 50-over tournament (a format that *is* played internationally) and the teams (which don't have strong local support as they're a hodge podge of players which changes every year) have now been sold to businesses so that any profits that are made are going mostly offshore and definitely not back to the counties who actually produce future England cricketers.

And they wonder why the national team can't successfully play even 50 over games, let alone Test matches #cricket

  12. #CountyCricket’s One Day Cup begins today. Free coverage on BBC comms/YouTube. Support yr local county, not a snackfood syndicate. #cricket

  13. Ready for a good evening's listening - the tail end of day three of Surrey v Hampshire in the #CountyChampionship and then the Thames Estuary derby - Essex v Kent - in the #T20Blast

  15. Fisher is ninth out, caught by Root off Revis for 10 to make it 120-9, still 162 short of avoiding the innings defeat, and Daniel Worrall is a genuine tailender.

  16. Just back from a wonderful day out at #Pensthorpe. Lots of photos to edit. Now tuned in to Nottinghamshire v Surrey, which still looks a fine contest.

  17. Ton up for Paul Walter, and though he slowed down late on in the second session there has never been much doubt about him getting there - his worst moment was caused by poor running, not anything the Surrey bowlers have been able to do.
