It's worth remembering that the ECB could have poured money into the existing domestic T20 tournament (turning it into a IPL/Big Bash/CPL), maybe relaxing the rules on overseas players, and could have supported #CountyCricket instead of creating a brand new format that nobody else plays (in the hope that they could sell that format worldwide). The Hundred takes domestic players away from their counties during the domestic 50-over tournament (a format that *is* played internationally) and the teams (which don't have strong local support as they're a hodge podge of players which changes every year) have now been sold to businesses so that any profits that are made are going mostly offshore and definitely not back to the counties who actually produce future England cricketers.

And they wonder why the national team can't successfully play even 50 over games, let alone Test matches #cricket

  2. #CountyCricket’s One Day Cup begins today. Free coverage on BBC comms/YouTube. Support yr local county, not a snackfood syndicate. #cricket

  3. Ready for a good evening's listening - the tail end of day three of Surrey v Hampshire in the #CountyChampionship and then the Thames Estuary derby - Essex v Kent - in the #T20Blast

  4. Discovered this morning that Wisden Cricket Monthly and The Nightwatchman are both available on Libby, the free library app. 🏏 #Cricket #CountyCricket

  5. Fisher is ninth out, caught by Root off Revis for 10 to make it 120-9, still 162 short of avoiding the innings defeat, and Daniel Worrall is a genuine tailender.

  6. Just back from a wonderful day out at #Pensthorpe. Lots of photos to edit. Now tuned in to Nottinghamshire v Surrey, which still looks a fine contest.

  7. Ton up for Paul Walter, and though he slowed down late on in the second session there has never been much doubt about him getting there - his worst moment was caused by poor running, not anything the Surrey bowlers have been able to do.

  8. New on my #blog: aspi.blog/2026/04/19/a-battle-
A look at developments between Hampshire and Somerset, in what looks every inch a classic, and some comments on Somerset Women's game against Lancashire Women in the Women's One Day Cup (which has now ended in a win for Somerset by four wickets) plus a #photo gallery.

  9. Hands shaken on a draw at The Oval. The pitch created by the Oval ground staff was too heavily weighted towards the bat to be considered fit for four day cricket, and the result was a draw in match capsized by sheer overload of runs.

  10. Sibley gives his wicket away to bring up the lunch interval. Ajaz Patel had bowled four consecutive wides, and then finally managed a legal delivery, which Sibley turned straight into the hands of Eskinazi. Surrey 105-2, still 66 short of avoiding the innings defeat.
