  1. Stop the #UK #fines racket

Volunteer in #Nottingham #fined for leaving 1 kale leaf in shopping #trolley

She was fined by #privatised enforcement agent contracted by #council, who was incentivised to issue as many fines as possible

    - This shouldn’t happen any more

New #Defra guidance clearly bans ‘pay per #fine’ incentivised #punishment

But #councils are so far ignoring this guidance, which has not been publicised

  6. Free to roam - Councils are too poor to manage roaming cats that kill 96 million native animals each year in New South Wales

"Animal rescuers across New South Wales say they're struggling to cope with a surge in surrendered cats, warning legislative gaps are fuelling a growing stray "crisis"."

"Under the Companion Animals Act in NSW, cats can only be seized if found in a dedicated food preparation or wildlife protection area, otherwise they are free to roam. "This 'free to roam' is perpetuating a constant breeding cycle that all of us rescuers are overwhelmed with."..."Until cats are treated the same as dogs and have to be desexed and contained, this is just going to get worse and worse." "

"On average the Invasive Species Council estimates each roaming pet cat kills 186 animals per year...We need council and the government to step up."

"In September the NSW Greens introduced a bill proposing to introduce cat containment laws, which would require pet owners to keep their cats inside. The state government is expected to finalise its review within the coming months."

"We would encourage people to keep their cats inside all the time, especially at night." >>

"Cats kill approximately 96 million native animals each year in New South Wales, including millions of mammals, birds, and reptiles." >>

It's not quite as black-and-white as that.

The project was backed by the #elected #councils of pretty much every indigenous #community that it affected. After it was #approved, it was #protested by a smaller number of *#hereditary* leaders, along with a whole lot of non-indigenous outside agitators.

The #TMP had the most thorough #planning #review process ever seen for a #pipeline in Canada - possibly anywhere.

It's a small minority of the #indigenous community against it.

  8. @localish
Wow, they used people of Asian decent there too. We almost thought it would be localised and they would talk about wealthy Californians wanting a second summer home or some crap like that. They are inventive like that.

In Australia we have a seedy interestGroup called the #PropertyCouncil (non-govt #councils are suspicious) and they put out daily #pressReleases in local #MurdochRags to spruik the #realEstate market.
