Lost a bit in the hubbub about Labour losing massively to the Reform UK is this little tidbit:
Wales is using a new proportional representation model!
There are 96 seats in the devolved parliament (Senedd).
There are 16 new constituencies created with six members each.
The 96 seats are allocated by share of the votes for a party, or by votes for an independent candidate.Scotland already uses a mixed Constituency and Regional member system to get proportional representation in their parliament.
In England these votes are purely municipal/council/mayoral races. I'm not sure if they're proportional, ranked FPTP, or what.
And yet here we are in Canada, too afraid to change to a more democratic system.

The UK #LabourParty expects to be wiped out in #Lancashire's reinstated #councilElections. My initial instinct is sympathy with local councillors, who are usually made of much better stuff than the national leadership.
But the councils requested the postponement. They are indeed short-staffed, and the top-down centralisation of councils is not their plan. But cancelling elections is a terrible response at any time. And in these times, it was suicidal. Get em out!

Labour ignores everyone else but ReformUK's lawyers (paid for by Labour now, such winners that they are...reminds me of that "NHS now pays 25% more for drugs" victory the government were pushing last year)
For a party which boasts of so many "Very Serious People" in the form of Lawyers, they keep getting the Law wrong, don't they?

Another climbdown after another assault on Democracy. We can rush through legislation to ban social media for kids (but leave the filth on social media alone) but it takes years and years to rejig local democracy....it's almost like Labour doesn't really know what they are doing and why?

It’s a very northern hemisphere centric view of the world. They don’t even mention the Antarctic ice melt or Pacific Ocean currents, but you get the picture.

• Methane
• Global food crisis
• Climate refugee crisis

I.e 1,500 gigatons of carbon + methane . Yikes.Effect #4 – Rapid melting of the Greenland ice sheet and sea level rise (coastal cities will be submerged).

Its total melt would raise sea levels by almost 7 meters [23 feet] and could change ocean circulation patterns.”Effect #5 – Collapse of the gulf stream and AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) the winter freeze in Europe will be bad.

Nudging my daughter Torie, and gkids @Tzipporah and Yocheved to register to vote for the upcoming #Mvskoke elections.
I'm already registered, and I'm sending in my absentee ballot request form, and Tzip is working on their registration form. I gotta check on the other two.
Maybe we can all kibbutz about candidates when the time comes.
