The latest Council Tax bill just dropped through the letterboxes of countless people across Anglesey today.
The cost? £2227 for the year. £42 per week. For a rabbit hutch bungalow.
A fundamentally regressive tax that no party ever wants to make fairer.

Had our council tax notice for the coming year.
Apparently, by law the max they can increase it by without special measures is 5% … our county council are a Reform majority council, and it’s going up by 4.9% …
So much for Reform lowering taxes.

⚠️ reminder ⚠️
we still pay #counciltax without getting services. we are being robbed & #gaslit to believe it's our responsibility to clean the streets.
i will not pick up litter if it doesn't include collective refusal to pay council tax & picketing the council. the money is with the #BillionaireClass & their corporations who get the outsourced council contracts to service us. stop #PublicServicePrivatisation & give ppl decent jobs with good wages.

@Alternatecelt @adrianww @peterbrown @LaChasseuse @Wen Galloway needs democratic accountability, which Dumfries and Galloway Council is much too large, and much too under-resourced, to provide.
Scotland, generally, needs both local government reform -- we don't currently have any local government -- and in particular local government finance reform (which tinkering with #CouncilTax rates will not do); but to do that we need to get oligarchic power out of local politics, and that, too, is hard.
-
Many eyes will glaze over at the mention of local government finance, but its reform must be tackled by any UK government that claims to be progressive.
-
If you're interested in the reform of #CouncilTax -- which you should be -- there's a current consultation you can respond to, and should. It isn't, of course, nearly radical enough -- it's an exercise in turd-polishing, not in seriously trying to address the problem. But the more people who say so, the more likely we are to get real change.
