  2. Why is OFFLINE. LOCAL Multiplayer so broken on consoles? To play offline together on Xbox, my 5yo now has an Xbox account, ea account, epic account and what not. We are playing BuzzJunior Jungle Party on PlayStation 2 now.

  3. If anyone's looking for a good #CouchCoOp game to play over Christmas, I'd recommend Research and Destroy. I feel bad for this game because it got a lot of one-star reviews on the Xbox store after it went on Game Pass, and they were all some variant of 'this game is not identical to this other game I like and therefore sucks'. We played it through completely four times before it was removed.

It does take a bit of getting used to. It's a combination of turn-based and FPS mechanics. You get a turn with three characters (you can switch between them at will) and they each can elapse a fixed amount of time per turn. Time elapses only when you're aiming or moving, not when you're just looking (lots of people complained about time elapsing while aiming, but it would be far too easy to snipe if aiming didn't elapse time).

The game has nine weapons and they all have different advantages. There's no 'best' weapon and you start with a random set of three, so two different runs can be very different. You can unlock the others and you can upgrade each of the firing modes in different ways, which alters the play style a lot.

The enemies are also varied. Ghosts can move through walls (and, if you hit them with an explosive, can be pushed into walls where they're hard to shoot). The Boogeyman targets a single character and can be seen only by that character, but can be damaged only by other characters, so you need some team work. The Vampire Assassin creeps close and then teleports away after striking, but can be heard giggling if you're close (which helps to find her - she's not invisible, but she does hide behind things). And so on. Each new creature needs different tactics, so there's a lot of variety.

No affiliate links, I'm not related to the company that made the game in any way, I just really enjoyed it and was sad that it got so many bad reviews for daring to be creative.
