    Tax the rich.

The rise of industries in the late 1800s eroded the tradition of people living together in multi-generational households, where old and young worked together to provide for everyone.

    Nuclear families became the norm.

Younger generations moved to cities to take good-paying industrial jobs, leading lives distant from their older, often infirm, relatives.

  2. I will scrape the money together for a covid vaccine once they've been updated in the UK for the latest variants, and I know Augie's probably not familiar with how bad the #CostOfGreedCrisis is in the UK, but yeesh. £100 isn't an easy sum for most people to just divert from their discretionary spending. The NHS vaccination programme for eligible people starts 1st October. I'll also be self-funding my flu vaccine.

  3. Tips for a more ethical life: - if you see someone shoplifting in a large supermarket, try to distract the security guards' attention - if you can find a way to bypass a water meter, and not be detected, teach others how to do the same Stealing from robbers isn't unethical #CostOfGreedCrisis

  4. So I caved and looked at my investments: 3% down on a week ago. Could be worse (and may well yet be) but frustrating to have to rebuild (again) because of one idiot's actions. Still, this is a long term strategy, and we've not hit the levels set with my IFA where we need to reconsider our strategy (I'm sure he's fielding enough panicked calls). This is the money that keeps me fed and watered though, and it's already being squeezed by the #CostOfGreedCrisis

  5. The previous direct debit amount used to rack up a surplus over Summer, to help cover the deficit generated in the Winter. This last Summer it couldn't keep up with Summer demand (which is almost 100% charged at the cheapest, overnight tariffs, due to load shifting courtesy of a home battery). The biggest change: daily standing charge, especially for gas. If I could afford to replace my gas stove right now, I would. #CostOfGreedCrisis

  7. @ChrisMayLA6 not just the political system, people are just exhausted. It's coming up on 16 years since the 2008 crash and people have gone from deliberately introduced austerity to a #costofgreedcrisis via a worldwide pandemic (that hasn't gone away, it's just being ignored). It's a luxury to be able to think about politics instead of whether you'll be able to afford the week's groceries, or to have the heating on long enough to dry out your clothes.

  8. “…the real purpose of a coven was to meet friends, even if they were friends simply because they were really the only people you could talk to freely as they had the same problems and would understand what you were moaning about.”

  11. Private jets are causing significantly more pollution per passenger than any other mode of transportation including commercial flights. As we witness the devastating impact of climate change, please sign this petition to urge all governments to tax private jets immediately.

  12. The climate crisis is here. The storm will not pass. Climate change will only get worse unless our politicians act. We have to do everything we can to stop causing more irreverable damage to the climate.

  14. I've Just Worked Out...

When I was driving my medium-sized diesel car, a kWh of diesel (0.093 litres) would get me about 1.4 km down the road.

Now that I drive a similar-sized EV, a kWh gets me about 7 km down the road. That's 5 times further!

Based on this, in our transition from fossil-fuel energy to renewable energy, we only need a small fraction of the energy to be transitioned. The rest (in my example 80%) is not needed.

For a more detailed view of USA Energy Consumption in 2021, look at the chart. Basically, it says what I just said, but their “rejected energy” is 67%.

  15. The World Health Organisation published a report showing that, in 2019, almost all of the global population (99%) breathe air that exceeds WHO guideline limits and contains high levels of pollutants. In the report, outdoor air pollution is estimated to have caused 4.2 million premature deaths worldwide in 2019.
The report attributes almost all of this air polution to the burning of fossil fuels.
