Went to see Have Fun, Good Luck, Don't Die last night.
I loved it.
I hated it.
I am hoping that if the crazies in charge ARE successful in creating AGI, it is as indifferent to my existence as I will be to its existence.
Feeling very much like the protagonist of Victor Lavalle's Ballad of Black Tom; I will take the indifference of a cosmic entity that I cannot understand over the open malice of a society ruled by sociopathic oligarchs and technocrats any day of the week.
I really love cosmic horror, but I am not so sure I am a fan of living it. The closer we get as a society, collectively, to peering behind the veil--the more the idea of madness as the result of clarity and understanding resonates with me.

On the day Evelyn turned eight, Werner Twist pushed her into a mudbank and ruined her favorite dress. The black
and green one, with a foxhead sewn high up on the collar.
All his friends laughed, egging him on, and Evelyn got so mad she
popped right back up and bit him on his stupid face.
No one laughed after that.
Down went Werner Twist, and Evelyn with him. He was bigger than
Evelyn, but she clawed her way on top of him and stayed there. Hit
him again and again until his nose bled and he cried for his mother.
She didn’t let up. Not until Mr. Wulf, the town’s constable, pried her
off him by the scruff of her neck and sent Werner Twist and all his
friends back to their parents.
“Is this how you plan to go through life?” asked Mr. Wulf.
“Yes,” Evelyn snapped, brushing a tangle of muddy black hair from
her eyes.
“I think you broke his nose.”
“Good.”
He fixed Evelyn with an exhausted look. Exasperation and something
else—perhaps approval. “I’ll walk you home. The sun will be down
soon, and the stars are set to turn. They’ll be hungry. Who knows
what manner of creature they will stir up. There are worse things in
the dark than Werner Twist.”
Evelyn shook him loose. “I don’t need your help.”
A long walk home, all covered in mud. Gentle rain and wind
whipping across the west field. Bright pops of blue olimander and
yellow cania glittering in sunlight leaking between the clouds. Evelyn
heard the sharp iron of her mother’s voice in the back of her head.
*Olimander for fever, ground to fine powder and mixed with water.
Yellow cania for toothaches or brittle fingernails, applied as a paste.
Black cania for those who have offended you.* Everywhere Evelyn
looked, her mother’s lessons waited, ever-present and
overwhelming.
She passed Hook Hill and the gouge where Simon Thymes’ stone
house once stood, before vanishing without trace or explanation.
Then a shortcut through Farmer Bagsby’s lands, around the stagnant
pond in which his two best horses drowned themselves. Grimsby’s
Hollow was known for oddities and strange occurrences. Although
the townsfolk loved their gossip, they did not often speak of its
darker mysteries, such as Tinpot Sally’s murder, or the question of
what flayed the Gottskrieg boys one spring-tide eve.

Busy days. Went to see Brandi Carlile @ the Xfinity Center on Tuesday - such a great show. For a stadium show, it felt very intimate. In difficult times it's always nice to be surrounded by queer joy--the whole crowd was on their feet and dancing the entire time.
Last night was an abbreviated writing night. Made some good progress on the story I'm working on; not 100% sold on it just yet, but, better to make progress than yearn for perfection?
