文章指出，想快速融入一個新的社群，最有效的方法不是只出席別人舉辦的活動，而是主動籌辦符合該社群核心興趣的聚會，邀請想認識的人參加，或協助其他人辦活動。無論是小眾的線上同人小說討論群，還是規模龐大的思想運動，社交活動的需求通常都遠高於供給；願意投入籌備工作的人，因此更容易建立友誼，也更快成為社群的一分子。
作者認為，許多人把社群當成消費品，以為聚會、聚餐、會議和讀書會會自然出現，就像野外的藍莓叢自行結果。然而，活動之所以存在，是因為少數人願意承擔聯絡、規劃與執行的繁瑣工作，而社群領導者往往只是最願意把事情做起來的人。當代社會疏離的一部分原因，正是太多人想享受社會連結，卻不再被鼓勵去共同生產這些連結；作者認為，個人無法立刻解決整個社會的供給不足，卻可以先在自己的社群中主動補上缺口。
討論者分享的經驗大致印證了這個觀點。一名曾經經營地方社群 15 年、每日活躍使用者一度達 1 萬人的參與者表示，Facebook 普及後，成員轉向各自的同溫層，原有社群幾乎解體，但他仍認為投入值得，因為有人因此找到真愛、取得重要工作機會。其他人則指出，活動本身未必是社群最深層的核心，真正建立信任與歸屬感的，往往是大家一起籌備活動的過程；不過，主辦者也可能因為工作量過大、他人沒有分擔或回應而感到脆弱與耗竭，真誠投入比表面上的社交技巧更能吸引他人。
討論中也出現幾項重要修正：一旦活動看起來能賺錢，就可能被商業活動公司接手，地方節慶變成內容重複、缺乏特色的商品，甚至成為高收費低品質的剝削式生意。此外，並非每個人都有餘裕無償投入；生活成本上升、工作競爭加劇，讓許多人只能把時間用於維持生計或休息，結果社群活動常由少數較富裕的退休人士承擔。有人進一步認為，社群維護與籌辦活動應像學徒制度一樣由年長者傳給年輕人，而降低參與門檻的友善空間，也能讓原本內向的人更容易融入；少數批評者則覺得文章偏向個人隨筆，未必適合刊登在 Hacker News。

FediCon 2026 will be part of FOSSY.
We are still trying to figure out the exact days for FediCon @ FOSSY. But, it will be 2 of the days between August 6th and 9th.
We are also planning to do a joint session between FediCon @ FOSSY in Vancouver with the Fediverse & Social Web track at COSCUP in Taiwan.
