#CoryDoctorow has long been a TechCritic in constructive and humane sense. His neologism never fail to hit the nail on the head — such as his #enshitification which made it into the dictionary of many languages in one form or another. He has also been sounding the alarm bell on the #GenAISlop proliferation and its #financialisation while predicting that the #AIBubble will inevitable burst when financial markets can no longer justify the inflated valuation of the IA industry and its ancillary infrastructure. There is a quote in his latest bookk that I really like:
“AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our civilization and our descendants will be digging it out for generations…”
Unfortunately, for many stupid reasons, this is where we’re at atm.

#Enshittification (gównowacenie, gnojowacenie, fekalizacja platform) to neologizm ukuty w 2022 roku przez kanadyjskiego pisarza i aktywistę internetowego Cory’ego Doctorowa. Słowo szybko stało się viralowe – w 2023 roku American Dialect Society uznało je za Słowo Roku, a w 2024 Macquarie Dictionary w Australii powtórzyło ten wybór.
Proces degradacji dwustronnych platform internetowych (two-sided markets),
- Faza 1: Dobro dla użytkowników
Platforma jest świetna, darmowa lub bardzo tania, oferuje wysoką jakość, by przyciągnąć jak najwięcej ludzi i „zablokować” ich w ekosystemie (lock-in). Przykłady: wczesny Facebook (czysta kronika znajomych), Google Search (świetne wyniki), Amazon (niskie ceny, darmowa dostawa), TikTok (algorytm dający viralowość zwykłym twórcom).
- Faza 2: Dobro dla biznesu (reklamodawców, sprzedawców)
Gdy użytkownicy są uwięzieni (trudno ich przenieść gdzie indziej), platforma zaczyna ich „zdradzać” na rzecz klientów płacących. Wprowadza więcej reklam, algorytmy promujące sponsorowane treści, ukryte opłaty, SEO-spam. Użytkownik staje się produktem.
- Faza 3: Wszystko dla akcjonariuszy
Platforma „wysysa” wartość również od biznesu – wyższe prowizje, gorsze warunki, manipulacje algorytmami. Efekt: produkt staje się „kupą gówna” dla wszystkich stron, ale generuje maksymalny zysk krótkoterminowy. Potem platforma „umiera” lub wegetuje jako zombie.-------------
Enshittification wyjaśnia, dlaczego „wszystko nagle się zepsuło”, choć technologia teoretycznie powinna się poprawiać. Je lis Little Brother de #CoryDoctorow .
Il y a dans les dernières années un courant de bandes dessinées documentaire comme par exemple Economix qui raconte l'histoire de l'économie.
Little Brother est une espèce de roman documentaire. Au fil d'une bonne histoire, il raconte comment crypter des communications, il mentionne Gimp, il explique comment on peut être tracé de telle ou telle façon.
J'en suis à la moitié. Et je vais vraiment explorer les possibilités de la cryptographie.

as much as I enjoyed doctrow’s #enshittification audiobook, it would’ve probably been better for me to read it through a physical book, and write notes to retain a better memory of the specific topics he mentions and link them to my own thoughts, plus my other notes.
yeah it’s tedious and might involve highlighting and writing notes in the page margins, but any book worth anything deserves a good, slow read imo.
