  1. @jerasikehorn.bsky.social

    Exactly right.

In what bizzaro world is it an acceptable form of democracy for politicians to gerrymander based on partisan outcome?

Well ...the USA according to this #CorruptSCOTUS

  2. A tale of America in two parts:

    1) Republicans will have no black members in the US House of Representatives after failing to nominate any in races they may win.

    2) Republican-packed US supreme court ‘demolishes’ Voting Rights Act, allowing states to end black majority districts intended to ensure representation.

It's nice that the #CorruptSCOTUS pretends to honor quaint traditions like hearing cases.

I always expect the worst possible decisions from them - and am rarely disappointed.

    Thank you for covering it.

  5. @brandibuchman.bsky.social

If we're going to undo the damage from Trump and MAGA, we need to start with unpardons, revoking their judicial and other long-term appointments and overturning the #CorruptSCOTUS rulings (and shadow docket acts)

  6. @dogzilla

    Yes, but expensive to whom?

Not the #FossilFuel companies, who are masters at externalising costs.

Not the #CorruptSCOTUS who will keep accepting trip, mobile homes and other perks from their wealthy "friends"

  7. @RonSupportsYou @renewedresistance

I was thinking, "this is the dumbest take on the SCOTUS".

Then I saw it was a piece by Ross Douthat ... and that explained why.

  8. @Scotter

    Can't pardon himself. 🤔

Says who? Who will enforce that? Certainly not the #CorruptSCOTUS that already gave him near universal immunity.

The guardrails are gone. The autocracy is here, now

    #ThisIsAmericaNow

  9. I'm shocked this didn't happen earlier.

I fully expected Trump would force out 1-2 #SCOTUS judges - even extremists like Alito - to put in his own preferred lackeys.

With midterms looking bad, I would not be surprised by a sudden rush to replace Alito (and probably Thomas)

  10. In yet another autocratic move, Trump plans to attend the #CorruptSCOTUS hearing on birthright citizenship *in person* today.

Like his plan to attend the Electoral Count on Jan 6, 2021 in person, it's intended to apply maximum pressure on his GOP lackeys.

We would never have a Trump second presidency without the #CorruptSCOTUS

    - Citizens United
    - destroying VRA
    - tanking emoluments
    - blocking CO from banning him on the ballot
    - immunity

Every one a gift to authoritarianism

Of course they are. Restricting voting rights has been CJ Roberts's primary mission for decades.

  13. Another reminder that the #CorruptSCOTUS is totally Team MAGA

Blocking a lower court ruling and screwing voters with another unsigned emergency docket.

They took the bold judicial decision that a law that never mentioned "tariffs" does not give Trump the unilateral power to set tariffs.

Hardly groundbreaking. But this #CorruptSCOTUS can still surprise.

  15. I'm stunned the #CorruptSCOTUS made a sensible decision.

Sure, they ruled Biden couldn't waive student debt (despite an Act of Congress for that point). But I never thought they'd say no to the #AmericanClownEmperor

But will Trump obey - or will the DOJ gaslight on the decision and keep tariffs in place?

  22. #Mainers in kayaks protest Chief Justice #JohnRoberts near his island home

    by Stephen Betts, Midcoast Villager
    July 19, 2025

"#Kayakers who say they oppose the direction the U.S. Supreme Court has taken the country took to the water Saturday morning to protest near the seasonal home of Chief Justice John Roberts Jr.

"The flotilla launched its kayaks from the new public landing in Port Clyde and paddled a few hundred yards to Roberts’ home on Hupper Island.

"The chief justice and his wife Jane Roberts purchased the home in June 2006. He typically spends time at the seasonal home after the high court recesses for the summer. Their chief residence is in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Signs voicing opposition to the #SupremeCourt’s rulings were brought in the kayaks, and others lined the waterfront.

"Signs referred to rulings that they said harm the #LBTQ community, the overturning of campaign spending limits for #corporations in the #CitizensUnited case in 2010, the overturning of a woman’s right to #abortion in 2022, and more recent rulings that grant the president immunity from actions taken while president.

"Organizer Susan MacNeil-Densmore said earlier this week she is affiliated with the organization #AudacityCAT (#CreativeActionTogether) which has been active locally working to resist #authoritarianism, but said the event was not really part of any specific organization."

  27. #ClarenceThomas Secretly Participated in #KochBrothers Network Donor Events

by Joshua Kaplan, Justin Elliott and Alex Mierjeski
    Sept. 22, 2023, 5 a.m. EDT

Excerpt: "Thomas has attended at least two Koch donor summits, putting him in the extraordinary position of having helped a political network that has brought multiple cases before the Supreme Court.

" 'In the 15 years since, the Koch network has left a deep imprint on American society. Its advocacy is credited with helping stamp out Republican Party support for combating #ClimateChange, once an issue that drew bipartisan concern. The “full weight of the network” was thrown behind passing the 2017 #TrumpTaxCut, securing a windfall for the Kochs and their donors. And the upcoming Supreme Court term could bring the network a victory it has pursued for years: overturning a major legal precedent known as #Chevron.

"While most Americans aren’t familiar with the 1984 case Chevron v. #NRDC, it’s one of the Supreme Court’s most-cited decisions. Legal scholars sometimes mention it in the same breath as Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade. In essence, Chevron is about government agencies’ ability to issue regulations. After a law is enacted, it’s generally up to agencies across the government to make detailed rules putting it into effect. The Chevron decision said courts should be hesitant to second-guess the agencies’ determinations. In the years that followed, judges cited Chevron in upholding rules that protect endangered species, speed up the approval process for new cellphone towers and grant benefits to coal miners suffering from black lung.

"The Koch network has challenged Chevron in the courts and its lobbyists have pushed Congress to pass a law nullifying the decision. It has also provided millions of dollars in grants to law professors making the case to overturn it.

"The network’s position has become increasingly popular in recent years. Once broadly supported by academics and judges on the right, Chevron is now anathema to many in the conservative legal movement. And there’s no more prominent convert than Thomas.

"In 2005, Thomas wrote the majority opinion in a case that expanded Chevron’s protections for government agencies. Ten years later, he was openly questioning the doctrine. Then in 2020, Thomas renounced his own earlier decision, writing that he’d determined the doctrine is unconstitutional after all — a rare reversal for a justice with a reputation for being unmovable in his views.

"By last year, Koch network strategists sensed that victory could be at hand. During an internal briefing for network staff, Jorge Lima, a senior vice president at Americans for Prosperity, said the Supreme Court seemed primed to radically change its approach to the issue. The network was trying to find cases that could bring about major changes in the law, according to a video of the meeting obtained by the watchdog group Documented. “We’re doubling down on this strategy,” Lima told the crowd.

"Several months later, the Supreme Court announced it would take up a case, Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, in which Koch network staff attorneys represent the plaintiffs. If Thomas and his colleagues side with them this coming term, Chevron will be overturned once and for all."

#EPA says Tucson’s drinking water is contaminated but air force claims agency lacks authority to order cleanup

    by Tom Perkins
    Mon 12 Aug 2024

"The US air force is refusing to comply with an order to clean drinking water it polluted in Tucson, Arizona, claiming federal regulators lack authority after the conservative-dominated US supreme court overturned the 'Chevron doctrine'. Air force bases contaminated the water with toxic PFAS '#ForeverChemicals' and other dangerous compounds.

"Though former US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials and legal experts who reviewed the air force’s claim say the Chevron doctrine ruling probably would not apply to the order, the military’s claim that it would represents an early indication of how #polluters will wield the controversial court decision to evade responsibility."

The Supreme Court effectively abolishes the right to mass protest in three US states

It is no longer safe to organize a protest in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas.

By Ian Millhiser Apr 15, 2024,

"The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it will not hear Mckesson v. Doe. The decision not to hear Mckesson leaves in place a lower court decision that effectively eliminated the right to organize a #MassProtest in the states of #Louisiana, #Mississippi, and #Texas.

"Under that lower court decision, a protest organizer faces potentially ruinous financial consequences if a single attendee at a mass protest commits an illegal act."
