corporate democrats are NOT centrists. they are the fascists of the #DemocraticParty

if your opponent is a fascist, you cannot be “a little bit fascist“ and call that #centrism.

a true Democratic party would defend #democracy and oppose fascism.

a true Democratic party would be an #antifascism party and make that the anchor of their political platform.

you are for fascism or against it. it’s as simple as that.

In one of the most blatant pieces of malevolent corporate greed I've seen, I'm greeted by headlines today that around 2500 seafarers are still stranded in the Persian Gulf, simply because the shipping companies they work for don't want to spend any extra to fly them back to their homes.

"America's corporate titans are sitting at a giant table, in a roman-columned fortress just one block from the Oval Office, where their pal Jerry is now literally the 'leader of the free world', and somehow they perceive themselves as the victims struggling for acceptance.

Imagine Darth Vader and the Emperor at the control panel of the Death Star, lamenting that they're unpopular and have no power."

BURLINGTON, Vt., April 9 – "Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the Senate Budget Committee ranking member, today issued the following statement on new data showing the extent to which some American companies are avoiding taxes:

"'I applaud Citizens for Tax Justice for releasing new data today revealing the unfairness of our tax system and the fact that a number of the biggest and most well-known corporations in America continue to pay little or nothing in taxes.

"'At a time when we have massive #wealth and income #inequality, and when #corporate profits are soaring, it is an outrage that many large, profitable corporations not only paid nothing in federal income taxes last year, but actually received a rebate from the IRS last year.

"'Instead of balancing the budget on the backs of the #elderly, the #children, the sick and the #poor, as the Republicans in Congress have proposed, we need a tax system that demands that large, profitable corporations and the wealthy start paying their fair share in taxes. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the coming months to make certain that happens.'

Top Ten Corporate Tax Dodgers from Citizens for Tax Justice’s Report

1. Not only did media giant #TimeWarner pay nothing in federal income taxes last year, it received a rebate of $26 million from the IRS even though it made $4.3 billion in U.S. profits.

2. #CBS made $1.8 billion in U.S. profits last year, but instead of paying federal income taxes it received a rebate from the IRS of $235 million.

3. #Xerox made $629 million in U.S. profits in 2014, but received a tax rebate of $16 million from the IRS.

4. #Prudential Financial made $3.5 billion in U.S. profits last year, but instead of paying federal income taxes, it received a tax rebate of $106 million from the IRS.

5. The toy maker #Mattel made $268 million in profits last year, but received a tax rebate of $46 million from the IRS.

6. #Priceline.com not only paid nothing in federal income taxes last year, it received a tax rebate of $9 million, even though it made $73 million in profits last year

7. #PacificGasAndElectric not only paid nothing in federal income taxes last year, it received a tax rebate of $84 million from the IRS even though it made $1.8 billion last year.

8. Wireless technology maker #Qualcomm made $3.2 billion in U.S. profits last year, but instead of paying federal income taxes, it received a refund from the I.R.S. of $98 million.

9. #GeneralElectric made over $5.8 billion in profits in the U.S. last year, but paid just 0.9 percent of that amount — less than one percent — in federal income taxes.

10. #Jetblue Airways made $615 million in U.S. profits last year, but paid just 0.4 percent of that amount — less than half of one percent — in federal income taxes.

"Three forest protectors were arrested on Tuesday protecting the old-growth forests west of Victoria, as Canada continues to target #NativePeople with police operatives protecting the interest of destructive industries. The police ops are #BritishColumbia's C-IRG, the Community #Industry Response Group.

"Mourning the invasion of the #MilitarizedPolice squad who arrested the #ForestDefenders, who were his guests, #Pacheedaht #FirstNation Elder Bill Jones said, 'We are at the end times of our great forests.'

"Abolish C-IRG said, 'Due to the increasing amount of #indigenous-led anti-resource extraction movements in British Columbia, the Community-Industry Response Group was born. C-IRG is unique to British Columbia. They are militarized, have no budget limit, and the officers get paid handsomely to force #pipelines, #mines, #dams, and #logging through unceded #IndigenousTerritories, without consent. This is just another extension of the #RCMP’s original task- to remove and separate people from the land and enforce #ColonialRule. They do not keep us safe, they protect #capital."

"The last time the world was watching Fairy Creek, we witnessed the largest act of #CivilDisobedience in #CanadianHistory. Well over 1,000 Indigenous and non-Indigenous forest defenders were arrested by the RCMP over months of tense standoffs in 2021 as #activists sought to halt the logging of rare #AncientTrees.

"The courts hammered that movement, with charges and bail conditions keeping many away, and the tussle in the trees went dormant for most of the last two years.

"Until now.

"A new blockade, led by #IndigenousYouth and supported by non-Indigenous allies, has just been erected on a key bridge crossing an arterial logging road. The RCMP's specialized tactical team that responds to land defence actions is present and surveilling the camp. A raid could come any day, and having #media on the ground is of crucial importance to keep tabs on police and document the latest developments as land defenders seek to protect their unceded territories from old-growth logging."
