First, everyone deserves food, period. I don't care who or what they do or fail to do. Housing, medical care, utilities and internet, too, to be honest. It's 2025. All of those are basic needs.
Second, I'd rather tax dollars go to the non-rich, for any reason, or no reason, than to the rich, for any reason.
The rich should pay their own way, and the poor have the taxpayer assistance they need to live, instead of merely existing.
People need to be treated like people, not servants, serfs, or slaves.

'The Archive's digital-first approach makes it the perfect fit for a modern #FederalDepositoryLibrary, expanding access to federal government publications amid an increasingly digital landscape,' he wrote.
"Established by Congress in 1813, the Federal Depository Library Program is designed to help the public access government records. Each congressional member can designate up to two libraries, which include government information like budgets, a code of federal regulations, presidential documents, economic reports and census data.
"With its new status, the Internet Archive will be gain improved access to government materials, founder Brewster Kahle said in a statement. 'By being part of the program itself, it just gets us closer to the source of where the materials are coming from, so that it’s more reliably delivered to the Internet Archive, to then be made available to the patrons of the Internet Archive or partner libraries.' The Archive could also help other #libraries move toward #DigitalPreservation, given its experience in that area.
"It's some good news for the site which has faced legal battles of late. It was sued by major #publishers over loans of #DigitalBooks during the #Coronavirus epidemic and was forced by a federal court in 2023 to remove more than half a million titles. And more recently, major music labels filed lawsuits over its #Great78Project that strove to preserve #78RPM records. If it loses that case it could owe more than $700 million damages and possibly be forced to shut down.
"The new designation likely won't aid its legal problems, but it does affirm the site's importance to the public. 'In October, the Internet Archive will hit a milestone of 1 trillion pages,' Kahle wrote. 'And that 1 trillion is not just a testament to what libraries are able to do, but actually the sharing that people and governments have to try and create an #EducatedPopulace.' "

"Robin Jaspert: Credit Suisse is currently under renewed investigation for systemically laundering money for the Nazis during the Third Reich and for covering up traces of that until today. Is anyone else in the same boat?
Zachary Gallant: The only thing that makes Credit Suisse special is how hard it tried to cover up its guilt. In general, you can be a Nazi collaborator and a Nazi profiteer and live a happy, powerful, profitable life thereafter. So can your children, and so can all of the managers of your company.
It feels like this is a lot of manufactured fury about Credit Suisse, when in fact it’s so deeply systemic that most people have not thought it worth the cover up. You just have to shut up and move on — you won’t be bothered. And even if, someday, you will be bothered, you’ll commission a historian, paid with money from your company or family or foundation, and you’ll release their findings together, and you’ll do a big celebration of how you’ve overcome your past. Then you can move on again like nothing happened.
Robin Jaspert: Can you give an example?
Zachary Gallant: I would have a difficult time picking an example, as you have the Aufarbeitung (“reprocessing”) work of really almost any German company to choose from. Professors are paid to go into the archives, and then they release a book at a press conference together with the leaders of the company and talk about how this historical responsibility is so important. It’s all tears and balloons: “Look at us. We’re so great. We did it.” We could be talking about nearly any company in the German automobile industry or really any chemical or steel company. Just about all the biggest companies in Germany have followed this pattern, without ever having to do the work that Credit Suisse put in for a cover-up."
