Nostalgia seems to be my theme at the moment. Back to happier days, I guess.

He was the loveliest cat, in looks and in personality and character. When he was 8 months old I took him to a cat show and he charmed everyone so much that we heard people passing by asking if they knew where that orange Rex cat was going next, so they could see what he was getting up to. He patted a passing judge on the backside from within his pen, and played with the tail of the cat in the next pen, much to that cat's annoyance. He won every prize going, got his championship in his first show and I never took him again. I didn't want to demoralize the other cats!

Anyway, we still miss him. Sigh.

They were just sitting looking at each other.

A little #Caturday story about Ping.

Picture this:

Two or three days a week, I have a video chat of about an hour with my father-in-law 3000 miles away in England, who is soon 95, unable to move from his chair or wheelchair without assistance and with no friends or relatives to speak to. His only real contact is us, and his carers who come in four times a day to look after his needs. Sometimes I arrange his grocery shopping for him, sometimes I order him other things he needs, but mostly we just sit and talk and he reminisces. He struggles a little with the technology, but somehow we manage.

When it's my days to talk to him, I sit on a sofa with my tea and it's become a habit for Ping Pong to sit on my lap while I chat and stroke her. When I finish talking, she goes off. On the days when I don't speak to him, and Steven has taken the call somewhere else, she'll come meowing and meowing after me to get me to go and sit there with her. In the end, usually I have to give in, and take my tea and we sit on the sofa together. She doesn't often ask for cuddles, so this is a special time for her.

On Thursday this week, I was talking to my father-in-law when I realized that my bed cover that I had washed was ready to be hung up to dry in front of the fire, to be put back on the bed that night. As this was rather urgent, I asked him to wait and said I'd be right back after I'd hung the cover up. I lifted Ping up and went and got that sorted. After a few minutes when I came back, I was met with the scene of Ping, sitting upright, very proper, in my place on the sofa, just as you see her in this photo unblinking, looking at the phone screen at my father-in-law who was looking back at her. Neither was saying a word. They were just looking at each other. The two of them looked so funny.

It was as if she felt she was taking over from me. My father-in-law said "she's been looking after me". And that's just what it seemed like. She wouldn't move on her own to give me my place, so I had to lift her aside so I could sit down. My father-in-law is not a cat person, so obviously he didn't know what to say to her. And she didn't feel the need to say anything either.

Cats. Who can fathom them?

Who's hungry? Pangolin is letting me know she's ready for her second course. She always has to eat her meals in 2 parts, and so she has to let me know when it's time for the next. She's very polite. She is the chattiest of our 3, but quietly understated in her manner.

I've been a bit absent on here lately, as I've not been well. (Hopefully on the mend soon.)
However, as you can see, I have lots of help with household chores. Zaz couldn't quite work out how to put up the laundry rack, though. I suggested she just stick to cleaning the dishes.

This is not a great photo, but was a great occasion. After 15 months of being in the same house, this is the first time we've ever seen one of the other two cats share a bed with Zaz.
Badger (another Cornish Rex cat) is in the front, with Zaz looking surprised in the background. A real breakthrough.

Sleep Tight

Last Dregs
Zaz lives in a home where there are no dairy products, nor meat, but she has found her favourite tipple – hemp milk! She waits impatiently when she hears me stirring the milk jug before pouring out the measure, then has to lick the spoon (both sides) then the measuring cup. This treat comes second only to the pleasure of licking out the lentil pot! Happy Caturday all!

Remembering Rupert

This was taken when Rupert was about 12 weeks old, or so. He has what looks like starter whiskers as his siblings had chewed them all off, I suppose.

Rupert was a once in a lifetime #Cat . He was a red #CornishRex who was the most intuitive and affectionate cat we've ever known (and we've had a lot of cats over the years since 1982). At the age of 10 months he became a #champion to the rest of the world, but for us he was one from the day we brought him home. This was taken when he was 10, in 2012. He died late in the fall of 2019 after #hurricane #Dorian. We miss him still. #throwbackthursday #cats #catsofmastodon #tabbycat #EllieKPosts
