Senior meteorologist with Met Éireann, Eoin Sherlock has acknowledged that the methods by which they categorise extreme weather situations will have to change because of climate change. Future weather warnings will be about what the weather will do rather than what the weather will be.

Midleton was not the only area affected yesterday with significant flooding also reported in areas including Cork city, Glanmire, Rathcormac, Youghal, Whitegate, Glandore, Ringaskiddy Carrigaline, Raffeen, Halfway and Casteltownbere.

Just home from work in Cork. I’ve never seen anything like this. Some back roads have been completely destroyed by the torrential rains - they were the only ones I could take because of the flooding on the main roads. It will take weeks if not months to repair.
