Google uses INP — not FID — to measure responsiveness in 2026.
INP fires on every click. Page builders run JS on every interaction. Sliders animate. Third-party scripts intercept events.
No caching plugin fixes this. The answer is loading less JavaScript.
CWV is the last free traffic lever from Google. Most WordPress sites haven't touched it.

Optimization plugins "fix" this by deferring everything — including jQuery. Then your site breaks because half your plugins depend on jQuery being loaded first.
The rule: defer third-party scripts, never defer jQuery, inline critical scripts.

Bet you did not know this: scroll is not an excluding input for CLS. There is no 500ms grace period. Every layout shift during a scroll counts.
That hide-on-scroll header animating top? New layout shift on every frame. Every scroll direction change.
Fix: replace top with transform: translateY(). Compositor only. Zero shifts.
Lighthouse will never catch this. It does not scroll.
