Waiting 2min to sever #umbilicalcord after #birth raises chances that premature #infant will survive, new research shows. Delayed cord clamping — an intervention with relatively little cost — is believed to help because it allows #cordblood, rich in iron, stem cells and antibodies, to flow back to baby. Some experts say that it’s not entirely clear why strategy seems to help, but that the data is convincing.
